Did you get attached to your characters?

I treat mine as my kids so yes, I do get attached xD

I.... might have cried while drawing bits of my webcomic, because I am the softest of marshmallows and care about my characters' lives too much. ^_^;

But then, I get overly emotionally attached to pretty much every character I ever make, including the minor bit-part characters I just put in there are plot-movers or providers of information.

Yes. They've all been with me for so many years and I feel very very guilty when I end up doing terrible things to them, even though I know what's going to happen later on, making them miserable is still pretty upsetting... I also feel ridiculously happy when I can draw them having fun with each other ^_^'...

Funny, I care a lot about them but I don't see them as my children. I know them like friends and love them as such.

Oh definitely. When I wrote the prequel story I was crying while I wrote the ending.
Then my one friend used to talk about how characters "talk to you." It's like that for me too. When I am writing the story I "hear" them in the head and I can picture them and who they are, how they are. (I'm sure a lot of you know what I'm talking about) They are kind of like my kids. It's going to be awful when some don't make it

I am now! When I decided to finally do a webcomic I came up with brand new characters and a new story and at first I didn't care too much about them. The OCs I really loved were the ones from projects I had been playing around with for awhile. Even as I wrote the first few scripts, they were a means to an end. Tell a story so I could get better at drawing. But oh wow, when I started drawing they really started to come to life. Putting myself in their shoes and trying to figure out their reactions and body language made me get into their heads more, and now I am hesitant to do all the horrible stuff I had planned!

I love my characters, I'm always excited when I think about them, and when people ask about them.

But once in a while I really hate them, because I feel like they're not cool or interesting enough. It makes me want to delete every file of them. But then again, they will forever exist in my memory. And after a while they pop up in my mind again and I'll feel sorry for hating them haha.

Yes and no. Yes being I flesh them out, enjoy drawing scenarios for them and imagining their inner workings and no in that they aren't real and I never really feel too connected in the way I would reading about a character in a book/movie/game that I barely know anything about and gradually learn about them.

I will abandon characters when they're story is over with and done. It's a common thing for me, can't help it. My poor characters a gone and my friends constantly ask me about them.

As I'm a person who makes characters first, then tries to make a story for them to live in, yes, I get quite attached to my boops ^^Especielly since they've been around since forever (even though they've probably evolved from old characters etc etc), or at least 10 years...:)

POW! Right in the Nostalgia has originally been going since late 2014, so I must have SOME sort of attachment to my characters to continue drawing them in stuff and so on...

Heck, before the comic, I was drawing some of them as far back as 2009 even, so...yeah...

Oh definitely. I love my Angels so much. They're my cure for my frequent insanity. Also since I know all of their stories I feel empathic for them.

Also I enjoy shipping them even if it's "not canon" *wink *wink *nudge *nudge

Almost every creation I make I become attached to it- kinda hard not to, but there are some plotting decisions that I've made that I will stand by in regards to my characters.

For my series, Jim's Days, I really got attached to both Jim and Cheshire the most (since I developed them the most so far) because of how they just started as aspects of my own personality, but later evolved into their own individual persons For example, Jim was just based on how I try to be kind to people and now, form my notes, he's becoming too unintentionally kind, definately a pushover which could be his flaw as a character. Cheshire on the other hand started out as an emotionless tsundere who later on evolved in to a quick mouth girl who's just a kid in a teen's body trying to act cool I guess you could say that they're my babies and I loved watching them grow up :3

Of course! If I didn't even to some extent I probably wouldn't even care enough to bother writing my stories in the first place. What's the point of writing a story if you aren't even invested in your own characters?

YES! I am very attached to my characters: The are like my friends. Or something even closer then friends. They are constantly in my head and live inside me all the time. <3 I feel really sad when I imagine my comic ending one day. I will miss them so much! ;_; Luckily I am planning for a long series

I'm VERY attached to my characters and I have very strong feelings for them, but they are not at all like children or even very much like friends?? I just love watching them and seeing what they'll do. I'm a spy and they're the people I spy on and love to spy on. It's creepy.

Oh yeah, most of my characters have been with me for more than ten years. But I'm the type of person who gets attached to random things, like I had this spider in my bathroom and I gave it a name and everything and one of my friends came over and squished her and I cried Rip Annabelle, you had so much to live for.

In all seriousness though, I feel like it's important to feel attachment for your characters in order for your stories to be relatable. Like if the creator doesn't care what happens to the characters, why should the reader?
