Do some anime fans get so attached to a certain series that they get depressed when it is over?

I think it’s less anime specifically but more a problem endemic to any franchise or series, really. The problem with any sort of fandom is that, once it receives its fix of a fictional work, it just cannot get enough of it and so the creator of a series is forced to crank out more stuff to keep up with demand.

depends on whether the series itself was impactful or had a beautiful story etc. i felt pretty bummed out when i finished fullmetal alchemist brotherhood myself

Impactuful yes, but I think another factor is if the ending was satisfying. Some anime literary craved for continuation and never got it. But recently - I don´t know if I´m getting too old or what, but the last few seasons I struggle to find anything that would really catch my interest.

I don't think I've ever felt that way for an Anime. I can think of a few western animated + live action series that did this for me. Specifically ones I had been following for several years + was watching as the show was being released (Better Call Saul, Bojack Horseman, Adventure Time). I felt a sense of loss knowing something I was obsessed over was finished. Usually I'd read fan analysis's and discussions for the next month, then naturally fade away from that fandom, another segment of my life behind me.

I feel like this can happen to any show that you end up binging for awhile. You get to the end and you are sort of feel empty because there is no more episodes.

It's happened to me with TV series and books. Really good stories pull you into that world & when it's over it can feel like you've been evicted. Like, you can't ever go there again exactly the same way.

You should have seen when I saw Bleach ended back then. I had started picking it up the same year it ended. I genuinely thought It would come back at some point... It diddn't until over a decade ago, oops (and I checked the manga barely).

Attack on Titan was the closest thing that came after that, since I watched the final parts with my best friend. Those were some great times.

Other then that, I genuinely feel nostalgic. I think about what the show did for me and showed in terms of writing that I could try out, but other then that I'm not all that bummed out by a show (generally)
