Do you draw NSFW with your comic's characters?

I only have a few borderline NSFW drawings of my characters. I just really don't feel the need to draw steamy stuff. I used to draw that kind of stuff a few years ago, but I'm to ashamed to show it. Not because it's NSFW. I just had a very bad understanding of anatomy back then. xD

I don't think it's something to be ashamed of as long as you're not doing something like putting minors in NSFW situations.

But seriously? Yeah, I have I'm still shy about it. It's really mostly because I just enjoy drawing different poses and anatomy. I don't post it or talk about because the whole idea of people knowing I make the "spOoKY GroSs NSFW" makes me cringe and I don't want to be known for that as an artist.

While I'm working on it for me personally, I don't think anyone should be ashamed of what they draw within context. Context is sometimes important depending on what you're makin', y'know?

Like if you're drawing porn of minors (that aren't legally old enough to consent in your country or the world they live in), don't do that? That's pretty sus if you're asking me. I won't stop you or anything, I can't control that. It's just... yikes.

Oh yeah, of course. Honestly, a lot of the mature stories I develop have their NSFW scenes drawn/written out first before I ever create the actual plot. My Demon Valentine had porn long before I finished the actual story. Actually has two doujinshis in the making. And Our Universe has more NSFW scenes in season 3 (mostly nudity and some hints to sex).

Point is -- if my characters are 18 and older, I've made smut for them. And I've happily shared them in the discord servers I'm a part of. Which brings me to the next part:

Were you ashamed of doing that? Do you post it anywhere, or you hid it in a table, not intending for it to ever be seen? In either case, why?

Nope. Never once ashamed. Very much open about sexual content, and I'm kinda an avid member of most NSFW art chats in discord servers. That said, I do keep my NSFW art separate from my main works. I have a NSFW twitter for this reason, and I do this because I know I have readers/followers who may be minors.

Hence, while my comics MAY have NSFW scenes, I either leave those for Patreon/Twitter and provide the cleaner versions online (though for Tapas, I just put them behind the Mature tag). Rather than being ashamed, I just don't wanna make it easier for kids to see my NSFW content, you know?

And how to stop feeling like an unclean perverted degenerate for creating such things

Honestly, me being comfortable is a result of coming from a household where sex wasn't a taboo. If I had questions about sex, I knew I could ask my mom and not be judged. That, and it's liberating. You understand what you do and don't like as a person who may or may not dive into sexual content. Hell, sometimes, making NSFW doesn't have to just be sexual. Sometimes, it's about the aesthetics, the same way one may draw the naked body. That, and let's face it -- if you dig around long enough, there is a lot of amazing NSFW content with great art, plot lines, and acting. I see it also from an artistic POV and it's an field that ought to get more respect.

My characters will probably have NSFW stuff happen behind the scenes, but it will stay SFW for what's shown in the comic. But, uh, yeah. I draw and will continue to draw NSFW stuff of them. I might share it on a locked down Twitter so only people I know are 18+ can view it. I might eventually set up an 18+ patreon tier or provide options for an 18+ zine or whatever if people ever want access to that kind of stuff. Gotta get further into the story and more followers before that will be an issue, probably.

Oh yeah all the time. Mostly when I need to reel in the sexual tension in my story. I ship my MCs hard but I have to be patient about when things happen so it keeps me in check so to speak.

For a couple reasons:
One, for my personal religious beliefs. And two, for the sake of my marriage, my wife wouldn't be cool with it, so neither am I.

Now sometimes I draw bodies in proper anatomical fashion to make sure my proportions\angles are right, but I usually delete that sketch phase or scribble the crap out of it so it's not visible anymore xD
But beyond that I don't do any kind of Nsfw with my characters.

I do have other characters (that never appeared in any of my comics) which I did sketch NSFW pics years ago. I recently found them and they aren't really that erotic, mostly weird. I ended up throwing out most of it. I am not really cut out to draw smut.

Oh, it's such a painful theme for me

My comics is an R rated romance story. I've actually chosen this rating because I wanted some freedom, but it doesn't really contain anything explicit. There were only two pages out of 117 which had some partial nudity, but nothing really serious. Even Webtoons allowed that pages

My trouble is that I'm a furry and my characters are furries. And for some reasons this makes people think I'm a sick pervert. So I'm either get harassed by "purity protectors" who haven't even read my comics or get harassed by real perverts who expected penis jokes and promiscuity in my work, but haven't find that. Cool, right?

However I've never though sexual theme is anything bad. I just think everything is measured. I do touch sexual themes in my comics, but I don't focus on that, I prefer romance and emotions.
Same is for NSFW arts with my comics characters. Mostly I draw them for Patreon. This both helps me to make money and to hide my characters' private life from crazy perverts.
But even in such arts I first think about feelings and only then about the physical stuff. As people said this make my NSFW drawings kind of sensitive.

Recently I even had a serious fight in my art group. I drew two of my boys in their bed, cuddling in the morning. One guy is serious and relaxed lying on his back. Another is on top, just laughing. People could see their nude torsos while everything else was covered by blanket. No sexual interaction shown at all. But people went wild and started making dirty jokes. Honestly I got really offended, because all I meant was just cute stuff. But such reactions always make me worry about what I'm doing.

I hate it when my characters are though of as kind of sexual objects, because I see them as personalities. I got few NSFW fan arts. Even drawn good they still hurt, because my characters were drawn like lusty animals. It's just... ugh

All in all I think NSFW drawings aren't that bad. But they should be aesthetic and fit characters' personalities. For example I have a grown up gay couple of 22 and 24 years old boys, who are experienced and mature. It is absolutely fine for them to have sexual relationship so I feel fine about drawing NSFW stuff with them. But still it's just a bonus, not the focus of their relationship. At the same time I have a sweet hetero couple of 18 years old girl and 21 years old boy. Their age allows them to have sexual relationship, but their personalities don't. These two are cute and innocent, so neither me no my co-author dare to draw anything NSFW with them.

I just released a pinup art piece that ties in the Valentine's day, or at least tries to. Judging by the unusual downright cold reception it got (one place where there are rating system for content, it is gone downright in the negative values), I think the results settles it for me. My feelings on it were 100% correct ones.

Do you post any other holiday pics? I don't know about other people, but for me at least all the off topic pics (New Year, Halloween, etc) never get the same amount of thumbs up as usual comic pages. So it probably has nothing to do with it.
And if you post anything nsfw to the sfw comic... well yeah, maybe it's not the place to do it =) Better put it on social media maybe.

@Darth_Biomech @vothnthorvaldson Did you consider making a small "extra" series with extra stuff, including NSFW or just sexy pictures / mini-comics? I suppose, this way those people, who are interested in it, will come for it, while those, who aren't interested in it, but want to read only safe for work comics, will not be annoyed and continue to read just the main series. Also in this case you'll not have a need to mark the main series as NSFW.

I actually thought of doing an 'extras' series (mostly for SFW content, but I would not have an issue putting NSFW content too).

The reason I did not do it yet is that I'm still debating whether I will publish a good chunk of my main story as a separate story too (to avoid delaying the main plot too much). If I do that, I feel like 3 series for the same comic is too much. But I'm still unsure what I'm going to do.

one of mine is straight up smut but I censored anything dangerous prior to publish it on Tapas and keep the full uncensored behind Patreon's wall. Personally I don't see any shame in NSFW in general because I really enjoy it and not gonna lie, it's a very challenging thing to draw and I gradually became better at drawing bodies in general with it.

I want to but I haven't gotten around to doing it. I have an OC (Name Busty) that is considered NSFW since she has huge boobs & dresses scantily. She's basically a parody of those superhero women from the 90s, you know the ones that look extremely sexy with questionable super hero costumes. But she's smart, courageous, and always trying to protect the innocent, her only problem would be that she's oblivious of the fact that most men are mostly interested in her sexy form. She also has a boyfriend named "The Goth" who is a parody of those dark brooding superheroes from the 90s like Spawn.
