Do you ever feel like you were born in the wrong decade?

lol this thread made me giggle. ( was born in the 70's) and before some of you go running to a time machine give my comic a read because bits of it are based on the 70's . mostly the bits about getting in trouble and the different attitudes from parents and teachers.No groundings or loss of cell phone just lots of trouble and whacks with a slipper if you stepped out of line. (then you had to face going home!)

personally I used to want to be around in the 50's when Elvis and rock n roll was at it's height.

As for other parts of history well I would like to pop around and "tinker" with history.

Not really, I feel like I was born in the right decade but the only thing I cannot stand about it is when I see stupid posts that are all like "HASHTAG 90's KIDS!!"

I do feel I was born like 20 years late. I was born early 80's but I feel that I should've been born in the 60's since all of the stuff that interests me are in the 70's. All the music I like are those Saturday Night Fever types. Heck even the car I drive is 70's, around a decade older than me.XD

Have felt like that from time to time. Most of the things I like the most are older than me. Was born in 1987, but when I was younger I often felt that I should have been born around 1950 instead. It would have been fun to experience all the things I like when they was new. I would love to have been able to walk into a car dealer in the late 60's or early 70's and drive away with something I can only dream of owning now. Or go to a concert when all of my favourite bands were at their creative peak. But that probably wouldn't always have happened so easily, since I live in a country who were lagging a bit behind.There is also a chance that I would feel the same about an earlier period if I were born back then. But back then I wouldn't have been able to do what I do now, so I'm pretty happy that things turned out this way after all. I still get to drive around in cars from the 60's and 70's and see many of my favourite bands live. And I can choose to just avoid all of the annoynig junk that I don't like about the past and only focus on the good things.. Plus I get everything that was good from the 90's like the Super Nintendo and Playstation 1. And of course the internet. And I get to feel nostalgic about all of it.

And I hope you didn't take it a wrong way by what my first sentence in the first post ^^; I only meant that I'm grateful for being born when I was, not trying to highlight it at all <3. I wasn't trying in the least to push the 90s decade on anyone since the 90s weren't all that great, no decade is perfect. <3

I hear this sentiment a lot when I was in historical fashion groups (Victorian-Georgian Era). Usually it's a romanticized desire of "a simpler time" (that doesn't actually exist) more often than not they teeend to be white people fantasizing about these things. A couple of people here mentioned stuff like "as a woman" or "as a non-white person" they don't like the idea of going to the past because of rights and rules at the time. I'm also not fond of going to the past (as a non-white lady!) and I've heard the same feeling being shared in black groups as well. They openly expressed not wanting to go back to a time as late as the 60s or 70s.

Maybe I should've made this into a game instead ^^; I think some people are taking this a bit too seriously. Though I don't have a degree in history, it's pretty much common sense that older eras weren't generous to most people around the world. I merely brought up this topic for harmless fun and for us to fantasize regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, etc...I wanted to see how much people's imaginations would take them without the worry of those constraints during those times. Since fantasizing goes with the emotion desire, there's not a lot of logic when we indulge our fantasies hence why my first post was so insane haha! :')

I'm sorry if I didn't make this clear in my first post, and I'm sorry for any miscommunication. I'm also sorry if I offended anyone with the making of this topic, this wasn't my intention at all.

More the wrong country than the wrong decade. I'm waaay too into this age of information to give it up for history. Don't get me wrong, history is ace, but I don't fancy the idea of going back in time to live and die within the 30 mile circle I was raised in. Go back too far and life it short, brutal and ugly, and you'd never know otherwise.

Never felt at home here in England though. Don't know what it is but it's just not for me.

I most definitely think I was born in the wrong decade. My friends call me an old man anyways. I listen to mostly music from the 80s and early 90s and I watch mostly 90s films. I couldn't tell you why, I just like them.

I was just talking about this last night with someone!
Psychologically I feel like it's our mind's way of saying we are unhappy with something in this time period, and so glossing over the bad moments of the past makes certain time periods more desirable.
HOWEVER, that does not stop me from wishing I could at least hop back in time to 1890's - 1925 in America for the Big Band Era.

I always feel like I was born in the wrong decade and location. Like I'm meant to be mid 80's rather than early 90's. Location wise, I still don't know where I was supposed to be. Just not in the UK.

I can definitely sympathize with these. I often wish I could backpack across Europe, I'm proud of where I was born but I never felt completely at home in the US. I don't hate my birth country, but if I were able to travel back in time it would be easier to travel and just follow where the road goes. Just work odd jobs to pay for food and shelter.
