I think itd be awesome if you were able to make a few bucks, but myself personally i don't expect to make a cent. I just love drawing, love my comic book im working on- its kinda inspired by anime but also more western cartoon stuff.

I care more about if people actually think they like my character designs. Any support like views and subs make it worthwhile. If i never maje a penny ill still continue as long as I can on my comic book series 'Nightmare Heroes'.

Heres a link if you're interested. :jack_o_lantern::grin:🧟‍♂️🧛🧙:snowman:

Edit- oop thats actually not my latest issue in the link, but its whatever.

Oh sweet merciful crap, no! I mean, I wouldn't be against somebody backing a dumptruck full of money up to my house, but I'm not expecting it. I think so far I've earned a grand total of three cents from ad revenue on Tapas.

I do it for money when I work for someone else or when I provide a service.

The creative work in itself is not a service, I don´t think about a possible customer
when I create something. Sometimes I create something with the intention to
sell a product or do create something which helps me with a service that I´m offering.

p.s.:
That´s also a reason why I think long term collabs don´t work, nobody works
long term on the dream of someone else without a motivation (money).
Exposure and trying out will only motivate people for a very short time.

Those are excellent points man. You're totally right about the aspect of an artist for hire, that makes sense

I don't get any money, so no. I mean, if I do, that's a benefit, but I'm more or less doing it for myself, since I've always wanted to write a story, and this spesific one is special to me.

Nope. I do it so people can see my work. I don't get any money anyways.

No. I'm too amateur for that XD
I'm all in for drawing, story and character designs, building up my skills via feedback and gaining motivation from fans.

But honest, I'd love to do comms or sell merch one day in the impossibly-impossible future, if I get brave enough. (Friar Chicken comic will be free forever, just so you know.)

That’s the amount of money you would’ve expected per day working in a factory for more than 8 hours in Elsie’s time!

twitches WONDERFUL!!

I never planned to ever do it for the money nor I ever will or wanted.

I love to draw and I love my characters.

If I wanted more money I'd just get more jobs. I'm a welder.

If I'm not skilled, I'd just get part time in fastfood. More money doing that than making comics

I do since it is my day job but I would also do it if nobody paid me.

90% of it, no. 10% of it, yes since in my defense, art does take time to make and being able to put your work in print or merchandise it costs money. Plus, some of amount of income for my craft would be nice. We artists bring beauty and inspiration into the word, so having that paid even by a small amount in appreciated. What we do is work and while we love doing it, it's still is work.

Yes. But more of as a long term. I would love to dedicate full time to my Amazement Comics brand, and I would love it even move if I could make money, but the market is so over saturated and competitive among other things that you’re better off leaving it as a hobby than a sustainable job because it’s not a field that’s guaranteed you’ll find any work at all.

A few years ago I had the innocent idea that this would be the case, but now I see this more as a way to feel better about myself, nothing more. If anyone wants to support me, I will always appreciate it.

Drawing a comic is something that takes time, but I'm enjoying it and I've learned a lot from it.

No I dont exactly do it [just] for the money, but I'm not doing it all from "the goodness of my heart" either...the creating art/comics part is the "simple" part for me- getting folks to give ink for the work that I do(or give money to my revenue sources such as Patreon or Ko-fi) is the "hard" part.

Like @MK_Wizard said, what we do is work; therefore we need to be trying to ensure that if the opportunity arises we're compensated for our efforts/results.

For other people's very own projects? Yes.

For my own? No. I'm very passionate about my comic.

Personally, no I don’t. Presently, my comic doesn’t make money, however I certainly consider it to be my (part time) job, and I hope to monetize (or even publish) it someday.
That being said, I’ve loved making comics since I was practically a toddler, so money or not, I’d still make and tell my stories. Having it be my full time job would be ideal, as I could dedicate more time to it, but that’s for the future!
For whatever reason anyone makes their comic, money or not, as long as you’re genuinely trying and doing your best, keep doing it! Keep telling your stories! We want to hear them.

I don't presently write Apparent Secrets for the money, but maybe someday. As of this writing, I haven't made a cent from doing it, but I'd definitely appreciate it if people loved it enough to throw a few pennies my way. :smile_01:
