I don't hate read anything because I don't skim-read. For me a bad book/comic would be really tedious to get through, and I'd just end up wasting my energy over nothing. I've read funny excerpts from bad books though. Mostly descriptions of women/ sex scenes.

Now hate-watching bad movies is something I do. You can put them on the background and do other stuff at same time.

I don't really think so, I'm not much of a hateful person. Though if I hear of comics that are notorious for being "bad", I will give them a read. The same goes for fanfiction. I like to be able to form an opinion of my own before letting a reviewer or another reader form an opinion for me.

I'm currently reading Sonichu out of sheer curiosity, and also My Immortal. These are both apparently very popular works that I heard of from my friends, and I simply had to see for myself. But I'm certainly not one to hate on others or even leave hateful comments for that matter, unless said person is just being an asshat.

If you are being an asshat or a horrible person, I will roast your ass to shreds. Other than that, I don't really have time to read something I "hate". That's time I could be spending reading good comics, especially new comics that really need the attention <3

neither are people who hate read :blank:

im a bit confused what this means? just because people hate-read doesnt mean they were Told to by someone? they couldve and probably did get to the conclusion they dont like the piece of media on their own? haha

if you feel like it, i recommend you read my response to DualDragons which goes into what "hating reading" is and what purpose it serves, because it's not this!

that's a fair approach!

My bad, I must've misunderstood then ^w^" I'm very sorry.

I guess it's just that when I was still in college, a lot of my classmates would more or less "roast" other's works. That is what I meant. They'd seek out the less-than-perfect comics, animations, etc. simply to hate on them very vocally. I guess that's what I thought you meant?

I'm not really one to do that, is what I mean. Since I'd rather devote my attention to the up and coming comics that I see potential in, which could really use the support. If that makes sense?

theres nothing to be sorry about.!
that does make sense, and i think it just serves a very different purpose. hate-reading is a form of self-exploration, and support is an external encouragement of your community.
i dont think either is better or comes to replace the other, and it absolutely makes sense some people would prefer one to the other since people have a different approach to what they find important in a community centered around content creation

I don't. Some of my friends do that with novels, and I'm always like...why did you spend days of your life on that then? Also, people trashing their creative peers really bums me out so... It's not for me.
I respect a call out for tasteless /intolerant/ harmful stuff, but just hate for the sake of it being popular without skill? I think it would put me in a competitive headspace as a creator and ultimately be worse for myself.

I just think there are not enough ppl raising their peers up?

...maybe I'm too sensitive? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I might check out something that's considered awfully bad by people, but I don't really feel like hate-reading stuff. I'd rather avoid it and not give it views, lol.

Anyway I find it really hard to hate a creative work based on the author's skill, unless it's offensive or harmful.

If I suspect I'm going to dislike something I go ahead and avoid it.
The most I'll do when glancing at popular works I'm not interested in is say "I know I can do better than this" and use it as fuel to work harder.
If you dislike something, especially from a moral stand point, doesn't reading it and giving it views defeat the whole purpose? I don't know, it personally seems really rude.

I don't really hate read, I try to give everything a chance at the very least. Sometimes the art or the story don't click for me, and that's ok. I think we're all trying to do our best, so what's there to hate?

"People of Tapas, do you regularly do something you hate, for no other reason except that you hate it?"

If everything was only about things I like, I would lay in bed 24/7 and eat only chocolate :hugging:

Yes, but why do things simply because we dislike them? This one does not understand.

I don't think I ever hate-read.
I sometimes read things I don't like 'for research purposes' (but, really ), and I also sometimes read 'so bad it's good' things (I especially like the type where the author has grand ideas and high quality expectations, fail miserably, but their story is very pleasant to read on a simple, down to earth level. A bit sad though, as I always feel these kind of authors could do superb things if only they dropped the high expectations...)

If you mean schadenfreude, then yes, I do like taking joy in reading a trash fire. Though comics are a pain to trudge through, i'd rather just watch a shitty movie like The Room.

I will never understand the point of hate-reading.
You don't like it, so why don't you just f#ck off and leave the creator alone?

that's not quite what hate-reading is for, though! to repeat my previous comment: hate-reading and plain hating something are very different. hate-reading is reading something with the intent to understand what you dislike out of it as a vessel for self-growth in a context you (as a content creator who's too close to your Own stuff) can't always do without a safe-space context (which would be talking about what you dont like about someone Else). it's a form of discovery and exploration of your own thoughts, morals and preferences in regards to how people act as creators and in a less philosophical sense if youre not into that, what tropes, stylization, and devices you might be using without noticing they're not that great
that said there is absolutely a point to be made about moral viewership and giving views to something you deem morally wrong, which is it's own thing and has work-arounds and theres a lot of debate to be made (which id love to do, but my comment is plenty long already)

@darjodo and @Enigma_the_Slimy_Boi this response is also for u buds

Oh! I misunderstood, forgive me.
I thought hate-reading was in the context of "subscribing and reading this with the express purpose of hating on it in the comments".

Eh, personally I don't get it and I don't know that "hate-reading" is an accurate term for what you just described, but, if you're not hurting anyone then feel free to do what you want.

Jodo usually has a good grasp of why he likes or dislikes things though. He has probably spent enough time examining this aspect of himself.

self examination is a great alternative, not everyone has to reach things in the same way, i just wanted to explain that it's Not doing something because "we dislike it" it has a pretty useful end result if youre willing to self-criticize
