It’s not so much the cartoons that I miss - let’s face it, most cartoons from the mid 1960’s to the mid 90’s were extremely cheaply done and only existed to sell toys - but I do miss the whole concept of Saturday Morning Csrtoons and, later, weekday afternoon cartoons. It was the one time when us kids were given control over the only television in the house, and we took full advantage of it by watching anything that was animated, no matter how truly awful it was.
Some that I really liked included The Flintstones, The Jetsons, the Bugs Bunny Tweety Show (or any collection of Warner Brothers shorts), Scooby Doo, Transformers, Rocky & Bullwinkle, and Inspector Gadget. Also, the whole Disney Afternoon selection: Gummy Bears, Duck Tales, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, etc.
Some that I watched regularly and even enjoyed but would be unwatchable now include the Smurfs, Pac Man Power Hour, Rubik the Amazing Cube, The Mighty Hercules, and basically any other cartoon that existed only to sell toys.
I still watch cartoons regularly, but only adult oriented ones such as Rick and Morty, The Simpsons (hard to believe I was a teenager when that show started and I’ll be 55 in December), Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, etc. I do find that animation in modern cartoons, even kids cartoons, is much better, likely due to cheap CGI (which is still better than hand drawn cartoons that refresh at three frames per second)
I’ve recently discovered Hazbin Hotel and have really been enjoying that, too.
