I mean really when cartoons like Dexter's Lab, Power Puff Girls, Ed Edd n Eddy, Cow & Chicken, Kids Next Door, Totally Spies and even Freakazoid was airing it was a completely different Cartoonnetwork

When did Cartoonnetwork begin to change into the current Cartoonnetwork we have now? (Maybe in the year 2008) ???

Honestly all the shows you've mentioned were so amazing when I was a kid, but around the time they started airing shows like Regular Show and Amazing World of Gumball is what I think was the next prime they had after Old CN, especially considering the fact we had shows like Generator Rex, Ben 10 Alien Force and Ultimate Alien.

If we talk about the Older CN, I'd say the Older CN including shows like the ones I just mentioned. They just hit different yk?

Watching Toonami after school every weekday with the likes of Zoids, Dragonball/DragonBall Z, Batman Begins, Transformers, He-Man, and Gundam. And also Hamtaro.
And watching Cartoon Fridays every Friday to watch Ed, Edd, n Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Time Squad, Powerpuff Girls, Grim and Evil, and Kids Next Door.
I seen great classics like Samurai Jack, Justice League, and Teen Titans.
And seeing Adult Swim to see Futurama and Family Guy (more so in my teenage years).

I enjoyed modern CN shows like Craig of the Creek and recent Adult Swim cartoons Rick and Morty and Final Space.

Yes you are right, those were the days. I loved watching Toonami after coming home from school. Shows like Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Zoids, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo! and G Gundam were beyond awesome

Every decade, cartoons with a different style come along. People are always going to prefer what they grew up with. Its nothing new. Dexter's Lab, Power Puff Girls have almost the same style and a other of other 90s, earl 2000s shows have style overlap.

In the 70s basically everything looked like Flintstones and Scooby Doo. Trends will always happen.

Why not both? Ive enjoyed and have a lot of nostalgia for old cartoon network shows just as much as any other network like disney or nickelodeon and so k but ive also grown to really love and enjoy new shows as theyve come out as well especially now that im in spaces with the people who have made or worked on these shows even for ones i may not be a fan of have still earned my respect for all the work that goes into them and i can value and appreciate that labor

sure you could say that the "original spirit" has been lost but i also think that's a view clouded by nostalgia in a not good way. all of them have their strengths and charms that make them fun to watch. a great example in my case was the amazing world of gumball coz to me then it seemed like "kids show slop" but that was pror to actually watching the show and realizing its both funny and also creative with being a mixed media cartoon which isnt really common so them pushing the envelope in that way became really interesting to me along with the kind of jokes or wriring quirks slipped into episodes

so yeah the old stuff was good but also filled with flaws and things id prefer we never go back to or maybe changed but the new stuff is equally good it just has to be given a chance

edit: I'll also add that ive fallen even more in love with the wealth of indie shows and projects that come up throughout the years since some of them are inspired by all those shows both nee and old or take completely different parhs and stand out as their own thing even with certain inspirations so i think its best to just never limit yourself to just what you deem ideal and branch out into lots of different media. its not only creatively enriching but exposes you to new and different worldviews and can in some cases even teach you things you didnt expect ‍️

We didn't have Cartoon Network in Canada, we had Teletoon. A lot of CN shows were aired on it, but so were a lot of non-CN shows (such as Duckman). I have great memories of sitting in my "Captian Kirk Chair", keyboard in my lap, killing it on IRC with "Teletoon At Night" and "teletoon Unleashed" playing in a window on my computer (I had an ATI All-In-Wonder TV tuner card so I could watch TV while surfing). The nighttime block featured shows such as Duckman, The Simpsons, Futurama, Cyber Six, Bob & Margaret, Ren and Stimpy, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Harvey Birdman - Attorney At Law, Venture Brothers, Home Movies, Archer, Spawn, and more.

Eventually all of the adult programming was removed from Teletoon and a new channel, Adult Swim, was created (In Canada Adult Swim was a whole channel, not just a programming block of CN). Teletoon coasted along with kid & teen programming (such as Total Drama Island, Teen Titans Go!, etc) but it finally rebranded itself as Cartoon Network. It still focuses mainly on the kid's stuff though, and leaves the adult stuff to the Adult Swim channel.

Older shows are better in general. There's definitely good stuff still, but it's not as good now. Even the way we watch tv where everything is on demand and can be rewinded etc.

I remember back in the day we had to mess around with antennas or else we didn't watch anything lol

We didn't get cable until 2006 so most of my CN nostalgia is from that era. We did have tapes and relatives with cable, but the only shows I remembered liking was PPG, KND, Ed, Edd, & Eddy and Billy & Mandy.

After getting cable I got into Total Drama, 6Teen, Mad, Regular Show, Steven Universe, and Totally Spies. Once Teen Titans Go came out and took over the network I lost interest. I was only there for SU and the hiatuses were obnoxious.
I don't have cable anymore, but last I saw it's still the TTG channel. And apparently they make preschool leaning shows now too.

I'd say my fave eras would be somewhere in the middle when they had the "noods" and the CN city. I was never a big fan of the blocky CMYK aesthetic they've stuck with since 2013(I think)

@ntravisb2025 TV antennae are still a thing if you use public access TV. All those fancy digital converter boxes did was replace TV fuzz with a black screen. They do not work without an antenna

Well, as an Arab, I have a slightly different experience. Initially, dubbed shows were subject to censorship, some of which was frankly unnecessary, which ruined some Cartoon Network stories. Also, the channel's management decisions, especially after 2016, were disastrous, as the same episode was being shown about 8 times a day or more. What I discovered is that there's a Cartoon Network subscription service that doesn't repeat the same episode, which caused me some frustration... Oh, I remembered, many great shows like Samurai Jack, Kids Next Door, Dexter, and others were removed, and their focus became on Gumball and programs like Mansour (I hate that disgusting show). Anyway, about two years ago, if I remember correctly, Cartoon Network destroyed itself and removed good shows from the platforms I love, and started producing silly children's shows that are just remakes of successful shows like Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, and others.

I didn't really start watching Cartoon Network until the 2000s, so I do not really remember the earlier days. I really liked Kids Next Door, Billy and Mandy, Class of 3000. I didn't really like Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Courage, or Teen Titans. Even when I went back to rewatch Powerpuff Girls, it wasn't as good as I remembered.

It's hard to talk about modern CN because I have no idea what is currently on. I watched some of Adventure Time and Steven Universe when they were airing but those shows like like 10+ years old by now.

Well my experience with CN was different. Ed, Edd, n Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls - the early new wave I remember, but I also remember the time before that - the early 90s, what were mostly Hanna-Barbera production, classic cartoons and action cartoons from the 80s. In the 2000s our satelite provider removed CN from the menu and that was the end of the CN story for me
