Hey everyone! I know vampires have had their ups and downs in popularity, but I still love them (and have loved them since I was like 7 years old) and was wondering—do you still enjoy reading vampire stories? Whether it’s classic gothic horror, broody romance, or action-packed supernatural drama, I’d love to hear what you like (or don’t like) about them!

I actually write a vampire web novel called Club Dusk, and since Tapas is mostly comics, I know web novels can fly under the radar. If you enjoy vampires with mystery, romance, and a bit of tragedy, maybe you’d like to check it out. No pressure, of course—I just love chatting about vampires with fellow fans!

My vampires have a few unique twists to them:
🦇 They aren’t allowed to kill—it’s a strict rule.
🦇 They must feed every three days to survive.
🦇 They can eat human food and drink (but it doesn’t sustain them).
🦇 Each vampire has different abilities based on their clan.
🦇 The sun doesn’t burn them, but a wooden stake to the heart? That’ll do the job.

So, tell me—what kind of vampire stories do you love? Any favourite tropes, characters, or books that left a lasting impression?

Well, I have read the classics, like Bram Stoker's Dracula (I studied it for A-level) and I've also read John William Polidori's The Vampyre - the classic which inspired other vampire novels. I haven't read, for example, Carmilla, but I HAVE read Varney the Vampire. Other than those, I don't really read much vampire fiction - it's just not really my interest. Oh, I read stories which have vampires in them, but not novels about vampires, if you see what I mean.

I have heard so much about Varney the Vampire! The plot sounds mad! I need to get a hold of it. Am I correct that it was a penny dreadful to begin with?
I have read Dracula (wished I did it for my Highers!) and of course Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire trilogy. Weirdly though, my favourite vampires appear in LJ Smith's Night World Series which also have witches and shapeshifters.

It was indeed a penny dreadful. As for how you can acquire it, you can find it online for free.
