Do you think Webtoon will open a novel section like Tapas?

I was wondering if Webtoon will open a novel section on their website just like Tapas. Do you think they will? Why or why not?

If Webtoon did open a novel section one day, will you try and post your novel/stories there?

It would be nice, but I highly doubt it. Their webcomics are doing really well and it wouldn't benefit them financially to add a novel section.

Right now, they're already translating dozens of completed webtoons into english, and it doesn't look like they're going to slow down.

I think it will probably happen at some point in the next few years.

As these korean tech giants begin to duke it out for surpremacy over the entertainment industry (even going so far as to to challenge hollywood.) having more content on your platform means more chances of finding those hidden gems that can be easily turned into franchises... And better yet the creators are gonna be small folk with little expectations, so that makes their job so much easier.
Due to it's creation process novels are much faster and economical than comics, a single writer can write enough content in a day that it would take an ilustrator an entire week or even a month to produce, so they are the easier medium to handle if you want to scout for hidden gems.

This is of course not entirely bad as you will likely be able to see more and more novels getting space in general entertainment, and better tools to make publishing easier and acessible, and that is always a plus.

As for wether i'd use... three things (other than TOS and legal concerns of course)
1º How easy it would be to post all my stuff over there.
Interface issues and all the what not, I got a boat load of stuff, and I would like to have it easily posted.

2º Content guidelines and if I would have to censor things.
Think this one is pretty self explanatory, I wouldn't want to censor my stuff... I mean... I'm not against it, but depending on how much I might not even bother.

3º Money
As much as this might seem cold, TAPAS doesn't actually pay me anything, and If I can start making some money for my effort, i'd surely do it.

Not likely. The parent company of webtoons, naver, recently acquisitioned wattpad. Doesn’t really make sense to buy a website dedicated to novel writing then to just throw it under the bus by unnecessarily adding a “novel” section to your other website. Maybe webtoons and wattpad will come together under one website buuuut I also don’t know if I see that happening.

Only I do see it happening. It won't be anytime soon. It will probably take a while, but the way I see it, Naver has basically brought two of the biggest sites out there for indie creators under 1 giant umbrella.

They have never been shy about their goal to take the successful series and turn them into TV shows, or whatever else will generate money. So I believe they will, eventually down the road, bring these two together, and use them as a platform for new ideas to prove themselves before they are taken on to bigger things. This is already happening, but know they have access to both of them, and it would make sense to eventually streamline them under one roof/site/app etc.

Wattpad and Webtoons will probably merge in a few years and Webtoons might be renamed to "Wattpad Webtoons" or something, but that's the extent of it.

What I'm more interested in is if Radish and Tapas are ever going to merge. I hope not, because Radish is app-only.

I wonder if wattpad will renovate their total concept and design to fit in with webtoons - or the two will compromise. Prob not, wattpad's overall orange look and logo is already a staple. But I can't help but dream though, I think the homepage and profile needs to change. I'm not sure with webtoons though, since I haven't been there.

I'm sure they'll merge. It doesn't have to be soon. Web-comics and novels in one site might generate more revenue than they do when separated. More writers seeking it for opportunity and audience and readers are spoiled with abundant entertainment beyond their kind of norm.

Probably not, but then again, webtoon is doing some weird stuff XD Like that whole DC thing... so who knows lol

webtoon has some novels turned into webtoon original comic (like re married empress ) so i doubt it unless they really see financial benefit from it. If it does happen , i probably would post my novel there as well.
