I drew this a while back to express my feelings, with the comment "forget patreon, this is how I'm making all my money"

It's just odd because he's got a pretty simple name compared to characters like "Æmber" and "Neiunthei," who don't have this problem. Even when the name "Jonan" is on the page or in another comment or in my description of the page, he gets:

Jonah
Jonas
Johan

None of these are correct.

I haven't noticed anyone spell Deceria wrong on tapastic, but in person the worst pronunciation I've heard was Darcy, which is not even close.

Haha sort of off topic, but this whole discussion reminds me of back when no one knew how to pronounce Hermione. They just read it wrong for the entirety of the first HP book. Then when the movies came out and people heard the real pronunciation, they were just like..........oh.

Surprisingly enough, the comments that I'm aware of, I haven't gotten any misspellings? There aren't a lot of super uncommon names

Then again not a lot of people refer to my characters by name so???

@indagold Tanning Bus has to be my favorite on this thread so far

@shazzbaa I honestly need to make one of these just for the Schnee misspelling alone. The simple names being spelled wrong is honestly the best

@deceriacomics Holy crap, that's a flash back. I remember my mom use to read the books to me and she pronounced it Her-mee-on. |D SO glad that's not how it was actually pronounced. I remember seeing entire debates about her name on forums.

@heterodont True! I'd probably see even more misspellings of my main character's name if people actually said his name more. Though a lot of people just also shorten his name to Rex which probably saves a lot of misspellings too.

Eh, most of my characters have common names (Daniel, Wayne, Tim, Frank...) so them being called the wrong name and misspellings don't happen often. Though I guess people have a tendency to call Christine "Christy" for short when her nickname's "Chrissy", but I don't consider that a huge deal.

I don't know about spelling, I think I've gotten a lot of aberrations from people about names. verses actually writing them out. I'm not sure if it's because they can't spell it or they don't really fully remember the name.
possible because the names are really strange: Zautcha, chu-chang, Eaucha, Huā, Tamagi-zu,( the zu is pronounced using the Chinese zu sound) oyaluyang ect. partially because of the names in general sound strange to most people.

mostly I have people who cannot pronounce the names. Either they ask me how to say them or they actually try to say it to me. So I can hear them.

Roxy's pronunciation is always correct, but some people seem to have trouble with the spelling. I've noticed many spell it as 'Roxie'.

Readers tend to mix up Era and Aeon's names a lot. Though that's understandable.

When it comes to pronouncing the names (You're usually not able to tell anyway because you can't hear how your readers pronounce names), I got a comment from someone felling dumb about not realizing until now that Era and Aeon were time themed names. So they were pronouncing Aeon as "Aye-on" instead of "E-on"

Also my little sister used to pronounce Osiris as "Oz-er-iss" for the longest time, though now she pronounces it correctly to sound more like "Oh-sigh-ris"

Ha ha, my husband and I go through this a lot with our sheriff character.
The Sheriff's name is Terrence Logan... but my husband often misspells it as Terrance-- shudder-- I just don't like how it looks!

Misspellings don't happen to us very often...which is surprising because we've got some pretty non-standard names in Kamikaze.

However we DO get a lot of mispronunciations of Markesha's name! We've heard:
Mar-kai-sha
Mar-kee-sha
Mar-kesh-ah
Mark-qu-ee-sha

It was happening so often we figured out a way to give our readers a phonetic spelling in the comic.

Mar-Kay-Sha~!

Terrance... it makes me think of "terrace", so I'm with you on that one. D: I donno what it is, E just looks better! Maybe it's deeply-ingrained from my childhood friend Lindsey who everyone misspelled as Lindsay, and I'm just forever channeling that grief.

I will channel that grief as well! For Lindsey-.- with an E!!!!

People often misspell Sekhmet - without the "h", with a "g" in place of the "h"... You name it, she's got it :/

Not spelling exactly, but I've sometimes had Sony and Microsoft referred to as "Playstation" and "Xbox", respectively. I get why people would make that mistake (and probably doesn't help they got the PS/Xbox logos on their shirts rather than Sony/Microsoft logos) but they're supposed to represent their companies (though mainly their gaming division obviously) rather than just the consoles. Nintendo (the character) isn't named "Wii U" after all (she'd have to change her name every time a new cosole got released... or there would be one character for each console. And ithe characters would be based on consoles rather than game companies instead...)

Also not a character but I get my OWN nickname Zanreo misspelled quite a bit... seen "Zanero" too many times to count, and at least one "Zareno".

Yep. I got a character called Lula, so I get Lala, Lalu, Lulu... it's written right there!

I'll sometimes hear Kamiko's name pronounced as "Kimiko". I once heard it spoken as "KAM-co".

I...I feel like I've misspelled my own characters' names before /shame/

Ananias --> Ananaias (extra "a"... too many a's... this is why I edit XD)

Does it count if I am the character? (I guess so because I have a semi-autobiographic comic)
Most people write sushi instead of sushy. Which is pretty understandable though. Maybe it is because of autocorrect on phones too ^^;

My main character from 6,75 is nicknamed Kestrel. Usually people call her 'Krestel', but also got Kerstel and Krystal.
My other character's name is Jerzy. People call him Jersey. And I was pretty sure that's a nickname they gave him, untill one of my readers commented that she just realised that 'Jerzy' is a polish name and isn't supposed to be read like that CX
Surprisingly, Karamanczi's name (...surname) is always written correctly. Maybe my readers just copy and paste his name : D
