I'm working on a commission, the character is reading a manga and the title of the book is "Leading Lines", what could be the translation?

As with all languages, it depends on what that title is supposed to mean. Direct translations don't always work because there may be no direct japanese based equivalent to the phrase.

This is correct. Idioms and metaphor is a pretty big part of all languages.

Star Trek showed an extreme version of this but it's normal when dealing with translating.

No sorry what I meant is the definition. Leading lines as in, lines in a script you lead off with? Drawn lines that lead a group? Spoken lines to use to guide or direct with?

Oh I see. Does the word line really have that many meanings in Japanese? it's a romance novel and its title is Leading Lines, so "lines" refers to a romantic relationship? I have no idea how it could be translated into Japanese, @YS_og .

You could always just convert the English title into Katakana. I believe it would be リーディング・ラインズ (but please anyone correct me if I’m wrong) This is basically a transcription of English into Japanese so not really a translation but it might work for a book cover in a drawing.

I don't understand the context with leadIng lines. Do you mean lines to start off a flirting conversation?

If it's just a line you start a conversation off with, it'd be 第一声. But if it's with flirting, it's all different.

If it's just a line that leads, then it's 導く線... which in my mind makes less sense but it's based on the scope of the actual usage and meaning of "leading lines" which I still am not sure of
