Well with a visual medium, as much as people hate to admit it, art contributes a lot to a comic and can make or break a story.
What I mean is, if the artist isn't skilled enough to convey a certain moment correctly with their art, their story suffers because the art miscommunicates the narrative. If an artist doesn't have a strong art foundation and the story calls for it, that's when I stop reading. An example of this is when an artist struggles to show a variety of emotions on a character's face, and the narrative falls flat.
