Does bad art stop u from reading a comic?

Art like yours NO. But Sometimes when I see this self promo topics (which annoys me), the art is so crappy I give up after 1 page. I know everybody started from somewhere but you really think your comic is so good that you have to make a new separate topic? I usually seek for existing ones if I wanna have some extra exposure.

Well with a visual medium, as much as people hate to admit it, art contributes a lot to a comic and can make or break a story.

What I mean is, if the artist isn't skilled enough to convey a certain moment correctly with their art, their story suffers because the art miscommunicates the narrative. If an artist doesn't have a strong art foundation and the story calls for it, that's when I stop reading. An example of this is when an artist struggles to show a variety of emotions on a character's face, and the narrative falls flat.

Your art is lovely, and you shouldn't worry. It's clear you have the skillset to tell a story, and it's great when your style evolves! Embrace it! Many readers love seeing a subtle change over time, and this is no different. Good luck out there with your new found style!

hehehe i dont have much readers i only have 20 i discontinued my main comic because i couldnt keep up anymore thats why i shifted to my slice of life hopefully they dont expect to much! i honestly dont care too much about art in comics but seeing tht others do i should really work hard

Bad art doesn't really turn me away, series that are unreadable or poorly written do.

Maybe the issue isn't the art so much the story flow.

As an artist I find I have to at least enjoy the art or I have a hard time reading the story. That said, a great story can overcome boring art, and vice versa. But your art looks really cool! So I wouldn't worry about that.

Ehh, yes and no.

If there's enough personality to the characters and style, and the story's interesting enough, then it doesn't matter to me if the art is more on the amateur side. However, if it doesn't have at least one of those things helping it, then yeah, it'd be harder for me to stick around.

This can also go the other way around. If the art is professional, but the story isn't interesting, there's a very good chance I may not keep up with it....unless I find it SO pretty that I stick around purely for the eye candy. XD

I agree with @VermillionWorks: if the story is interesting and the art isnt gawd-awful, then I'll read it depending on my interest in it...but if the art is bad beyond all recognition, and the story doesnt hold my interest as well- it's not gonna happen.

No it does not. Good art will get me into something easier, but if I like the story then "bad" art will not put me off. A bad story will put me off before the art. Every time.

No, I based my entire format of comics off making them look bad, I think the content is more important than the look. It also shows that anyone can something using any medium as long as you have good content.

As long as a comic has a strong/ good story or lovable characters the art style or quality isn't always an automatic turnoff for me, though better art will attract my eye easier. But in the end the story is more important then the art.
Also art tends to change throughout a comic, as you go you will improve and get more efficient. If I like a comics premises I will stick around to see the art and story grow.

If you are worried about your art though, there is nothing wrong with waiting a bit before starting the comic and experimenting with your style. With my comic, I did a test page and tried out several different colouring and shading methods to find what worked the best/was the fastest.

Your style is cute, so don't stress too much.

Totally. I do not read comics with bad art. It bugs me.
It may not be a popular opinion, but that's the way I roll, muthafuckas!

Mind you 'bad' art is subjective, but to me, inconsistent, confusing art is what really makes me flaccid.
Anyway, I still don't understand about what example you're talking about. The one with the flat grey colour?
Nah. Looks unfinished.
The one with the green streaks looks way, way better.

Not so much 'bad' art, but rather unreadable formats or unsatisfying to the eye.

If your sense of composition is good, and everything is clear, and that I know what the author is going for, then I'm fine with it.

Look at the art from the original One Punch Man and Mob 100 manga - it's terrible, but the author knows his composition and makes things readable.

To be honest, it can, yes, but if the premise or the plot is good enough, I can look past it. On the other hand, fantastic art is also not enough for me to pick something up. I think Yusuke Murata is a great artist, but that still didn't convince me to start reading Eyeshield 21.

Only if the plot/story/characters/delivery are equally bad, and by bad I mean there's nothing I get back from reading it, like I've seen it done better before or it doesn't add anything new or interesting for me.

Nobuyuki Fukumoto draws ugly characters but he manages to make a mahjongg-game so captivating I've been reading the same match for the past few years now (Akagi). Hugleikur Dagsson draws stickmen but it's still hilarious.

[edit] I forgot to distinguish between lazy and bad art. At least Fukumoto puts a lot of effort into what he creates in terms of characters, plot and setting, and Hugleikur's style is perfect for his jokes, which are very clever and the contrast between his art and his jokes makes for a very good delivery. There is no excuse for lazy art if you can do better. Simple drawings are fine but it has to be made up for by everything else.

Not necessarily, I can still read a comic with "bad" art if it's otherwise funny/has a good story, plus art can always improve as the comic goes on. Though art is often one of the first things to draw me to a comic. But if it's good otherwise, the art would only be a complete dealbreaker if it literally hurt my eyes to look at (overuse of super bright colors, ect)

I'm attracted to a comic because of it's art, I don't read manga because I don't like the visual style - has to be an amazing story for me to get into it. I would say I can be quite narrow in the style that I like - usually a similar style to my own. I'm someone who appreciates the art of a comic more than the story, it makes more of an impact on me - doesn't mean I don't like a comic with a good storyline.
