Does music influence/inspire your writing?

I've seen quite a few people say that they get their inspiration to write from the music they're listening to, yet I can be listening to jazz while writing a fight scene or bass music and write a slow scene.

How does music affect your writing?

I have a couple of dedicated playlists depending on the emotion I'm trying to convey. It helps me a lot to have a fitting song in my head when I write certain scenes. I do have a general playlist I tend to default more often than not, mostly because I like having a rhythm to type to.

Absolutely! I have a few songs I play over and over again for inspiration. I actually get more inspired by listening to music while driving and thinking about the lyrics. Even when the tempos change in songs I feel some type of way and can get into a character about it. I’ve come up with so many ideas this way by just applying lyrics and moods to my characters at times.

I can’t write while listening to English lyrics (my native language). I get too distracted by the lyrics. So I listen to music with languages I don’t understand while I write.

I know I used to when I was younger but these days I just sit down with a piece of paper and put down as many ideas that run thru my head before I lose them.

I also think a lot of the music I like tends to go full melodrama which I’m not a fan of in my story writing!

Definitely! I have certain types of music I listen to when I draw my characters, because the mood of the music really helps me convey their personalities. I'm considering making playlists for each one of them lol

I usually listen to instrumental music, but if I have to draw anything sad or exciting I’ll find something to put me in the mood for it.

Oh yes! I find some artists to be so inspiring. By listening to certain music while writing, the mood/themes of those songs probably influenced my current story quite a bit. Steered it into a moodier place, which hopefully I am able to pull off!

Also honestly sometimes I can't write unless I have some music that fits the scene or the characters. I have made many a playlist

I usually listen to some random music while writing, I just need it to be able to focus. Some music does influence my writing and if I'm stuck I usually put some specific music on just for that.

100%. There's pretty much never a time when I'm not listening to music while I work, and whole sale plot elements/characters have been written before specifically based off of a song! I don't see anything wrong with not, though, in case you don't. Music is very empathetic (I think that's the word), so listening to contrasting music when trying to write something very specific could lead to problems.

It sure does! I have a playlist for my series that I jam to when writing that features both moody electronic and intense, symphonic songs. I was one of those people who would stare out the window during car rides and imagine opening videos to my stories. (Just now, I make those animations reality.)

For me. If I'm not listening to music, I'm not creating. It's so intertwined with my process, from conceiving story to drawing pages. I've got over 30 playlists and at least half of them are for my stories.

I tried writing without music once but these days I play a collection of orchestral or instrumental pieces when I write. Recently, I was rewriting my WIP and I came upon one of the major scenes. Somehow I found it strange that I did not seem to capture the same emotions in the scene until I listened to the same music I listened to when I wrote the same scene more than three years ago.

I’m like you where whatever I’m listening to doesn’t usually correlate with whatever I’m making in the moment. Sometimes music gives me new ideas. I have a whole story about a robot that I was stuck with until I listened to Touch by Daft Punk, and now so much of that story is based off of what I felt listening to RAM.

Music definitely inspires what I'm writing.

You'd be surprised at how quickly a dramatic scene can turn into furious kissing when Doja Cat decides to crash through your window while you're in the middle of writing.

100 percent it does. It is what allows me to get into the flow of writing. As without it I am left wandering in the dark.

100%. I cannot write without music. But I have to find the right one for the moment.

It's more like the words of the song that inspire me, but then the inspiration carries on and I don't actually have to listen to it while I'm writing because I already have the idea in my head.
