My creations didn´t match my artistic vision 10 years ago.
This means my comic style, drawing skills and writing worked
for my old comics, but didn´t work for me for the stories I
wanted to make. My vision of my art wasn´t matching
what I created at all, not even close, like 5%.

That was my main motivation to relearn how to draw, learn
how to write etc.

Drawing figures, poses and expressions is easy for me,
they look how I want them to look, I´m happy with it
and have the feeling that I can express what I want.

Here are some things that I need to get better at. Some of them
are easier to do, some are really hard for me to get better at.

Writing:
-My dialogues are too long
-I try to put too many ideas into stories
Art:
-My shading is on the level where it was when I was 11

1. I feel like I'm getting better. Compared to a few years ago, the success rate of capturing the exact image I want has improved significantly. However, I’m still far from my ultimate goal; I want my skills to reach a level where people see me as a true master.
   In the short term, I hope to incorporate more abstract elements into my current manga, while ensuring everything remains visually balanced and aesthetically pleasing.

2.My biggest weakness is my grasp of 'form.' While my perspective, coloring, and composition are decent, my ability to handle shapes and forms is still quite poor.

this is also something I´m constantly work on. The transition from flat symbols to a more 3 dimensional, shape like
construction is really hard

I'm struggling HARD to get my art to match what's in my head for my characters. I usually don't have this much of an issue, but I've been stuck for months now. The writing is pretty much done, waiting for edits from my Beta readers and feedback from tapas readers. I even started and am like 1/3 of the way done with book number 2. I just can't seem to get motivated or like any of the art I do for book 1...

what is the issue? Do you have a comic which influences you?

I mean, there's always some adjustments between coming up with the idea and actually putting it down on paper, but I'd say I have pretty realistic expectations at this point for what I'm actually capable of creating. Certainly not the case when I was younger and way more ambitious, lol.

I feel like this is something you come to terms with the more you create, between getting better at the craft and just learning what is and isn't realistic.

I didn´t care at all as a kid and was mass producing comics with self confidence.
Then I had this long practice phase where I was unhappy with everything and
could hardly draw a page. Now I´m producing pages again and I´m pretty happy
with it.

1) I think it will if I give it the time to grow and water the seed planted, It will eventually become those things. I choose to focus on the journey, because it's the journey that makes the destination so much more appealing.

2) It's not necessary what is missing, more so that I would love for what I'm currently writing to become more then just a webnovel. It's a step-by-step process, for I would like many things out of that series. I think if I focus on what's there now, I'd like to up my art game better for the webnovel, wether it's by me becoming a better artist or collaborating with someone who would be glad to work on this project.

Hm, yes and no? Because I wouldn't necessarily say I was unhappy with my art, but I definitely had a vision that I was completely unable to match, haha.

I would say I was happy with my first try at a comic (Little Ball of Hate). The dialogue, art and pacing is what I wanted. The only part I was not happy with was the colors as I worked in black and white in my career and this was my first try. I think it improved as I went along. I think my second try at a comics (Spec5) the coloring was more what I wanted. I thought about going back to improve my first try but thought against it. It was what it was. I'll just take what I have learned and move forward with my next try (Hero?) and see what I can improve.

For Etherwood, my creation mostly matches the vision. There are lots of small things that I'd like to change or adjust as my skills improve, but the vibe is along the lines of what I intend.

For me, at least, the technical changes I'd like to accomplish are incremental and are the kinds of things that I can only really learn from practice and experience. If I could've taken what I know and have developed now to my earliest pages, I would have, but I had to make those pages to get that skill in the first place.

Right now, the things I'd like to improve are these:
1. Pacing and humor/drama balance
2. Character voice
3. Energy in my inks
4. Beauty in the watercolors, getting the "wow" factor in there. Specifically, lighting effects, smoother watercolor gradients, and brushwork confidence are my objectives right now, but I'd also like to increase my ability to show texture and detail without spending too much time on it.
5. Jokes funny enough that my kids can't stop laughing when they look at it.

For the most part, yes...sometimes when I'm doing a lot of the quieter pages, I'll struggle with facial angles because I believe subconsciously I dont have a great deal of interest in those scenes; I dont have that issue with the action scenes.

My coloring is okay, but I feel it could be better. My writing is adjustable where I can condense the dialogue if I need to...

I thought about going back to improve my first try but thought against it.

I did something like that, but only with 2 pages of traditional drawn
comic and not with a complete series. The main problem for me
was that it got boring very fast and I felt like I would rather create
something new

That´s a problem I´m running in right now. I decided on a style for the print comic I´m working
on right now. I really like colored outlines. The same with water color, my original plan was
to redraw the flats with digital water color with texture. I tried it, it looks great but it makes
my long work progress even longer.

Honestly, it doesn't match. What I mean is that I have a ceiling on my expectations, but my artistic performance is still far below it.
But to be honest, there has been a noticeable improvement in my art. , and that pleases me, but what I'm currently focusing on developing is drawing backgrounds.

That´s was the main reason why I went into that really long
training phase. I was already 40 at that time and I had a pretty
wild cartoony style. I never sketched anything, I was fast,
always final outlines. I had a style which is quite common
in german comics. A kind of a "I don´t care" style.

It did fit to my stories back then, the problem was that it didn´t
work with the stories I want to tell. So I had to decide what
to do about it and then decided on learning and training and
it was a good decision.
