Ever feared you already peaked?

Hi, y'all.

I was wondering if any other writers or artists have felt as if they have already finished their best work and they won't be able to reach the same level of quality. I can tell you I've had that feeling multiple times haha. Especially when taking breaks from writing.

Ever felt after finishing a project you won't be able to top that ever? Or even reach the same quality?

Curious to hear about people's experiences.

i think if your peaking study more.when i dont draw often and i start up drawing again my drawings look like dirt so i expect that. also could maybe be interest or passion not truly there. thats just my thoughts

Well, I always ask myself "is there more I can learn?"

Can my anatomy get better? Can I do stronger backgrounds? What would happen if I drew with different colors palletes instead?

Whenever I felt like I peaked, I tried something new. And if my finished project was amazing, I would learn new skills to make an even better project down the road.

I would also go over older works and see if I could revise them into something more. This stopped my peaking because older work always lead to more research on art techniques and topics for writing plots and characters.

I don't try to surprass myself or any of my previous projects. Whenever I make a new story I don't think about how to make it better than my last, I just create something to my own pleasure or current mood/interests.

When I look back at the old projects and see some that could've been done better, I just go back and improve them or put them on "eventual reboot" list.

If someone would ask me "which work is your best?" I'd just give them a (long) list of my personal favorites saying "these".

I guess you can say my stats are a constant line with some bumps here and there, but no noticeable peaks or falls.

I think, at least in my case, anything I do is the best until I'll do something new.
It's not thinking of myself too much as the fact that once I get an idea out of me
I use it as experience to the next thing, so it has to be better (unless I learned nothing in the
process which is sad)

Nope. Coz I always feel that the work I'm currently doing is better than the work I did months ago...therefore, I dont think I've peaked, as far as my art goes; I can get better.

The best way to negate such a feeling is to create completely different things in succession
(e.g. after creating a tragedy, move on to creating a light-hearted and fantastical slice of life).

If you feel you've peaked it's because you've forgotten how to continually improve. There's always something to improve on.

i remember thinking that with my art in high school, i didnt think i was improving at all and was under the impression that i'd already peaked. its kinda funny because i can barely look at my high school art, its so bad.

I always criticize myself too harshly and therefore always feel that I have a lot of catching up to do. Knowing that overwhelms me and intimidates me. So I don't think I've reached my peak yet, because I (try to) believe that I can still improve. If I even take short breaks from drawing, I do get the feeling of not being able to top my previous ones because of my inadequacies. I hate that feeling so much.

I've already tried doing nothing so now I'm trying to be kind to myself and do little things everyday.

I suppose! Though, I feel like that's the same as throwing in the towel. Then again, i do try and be an artistic optimist, feeling that even if I am at such a dead-end, it just means I need to start exploring to find places to work on.

I haven't written any serious series yet, so I feel like I can still keep on outputting better stories. In terms of popularity however, I think I've peaked hahahaa. It's hard to imagine going any higher than I am currently.

I do kind of feel that right now, as im just having my first, truly sucesful comic. But this happened before too with another thing, comunity managment. I made a huge comunity when i was 12, and since then i never felt like i acomplished anything as big as that ever again, wich was a huge letdown for me. But as i keep growing up and learning, i get more and more tools so i can keep making things more interesting, so i try not to fear that for now, as i feel there's a long way to reach my true peak.

Lol I did have a moment of doubt just last night when I was struggling real hard to draw hands. Tbh, I often have this fear, but I know it's just insecurity talking. I just need to try effin harder! There's always room for growth if you look for it.
