First Web Comic?

I've actually never read penny arcade, except for like two or three strips. lol!

I'm not surprised! For years and years, you couldn't talk about webcomics without mentioning Penny Arcade - it's like a monolith in webcomics! - but the scene has grown a lot broader since those early days! When people talk about getting into webcomics via stuff like Todd Allison and Petunia Violet, I feel like a grandma grumbling to all the kids to get off my lawn. XD

But it's a good thing - there's a whole universe of stories to be told, and I'm glad webcomics are a way for people to accomplish that.

Probably Stray Hounds from my good friend Joao. He introduced me to the world of webcomics and taught me how to speed up my creative process. I consider him as one of my mentors.
Unfortunately his stuff has been on hiatus for a while but I know he is working on a buffer for later on.

First comic I started reading was Tsubasa by CLAMP, as well as many of CLAMPS series like xxxholic, Chobits, Wish, etc. All from the library. Then I found out there was a lot of manga you could read online...
First online web-comic... I can't quiet say, I can't remember when I started realizing they existed. I think Megatokyo was the first I actually recognized as an online long-story webcomic but never really read it. I saw Cyanide and Happiness and Rage comics with the meme faces aswell through facebook posts, as well as random comic pages on Deviantart but never sought to follow them either. The first host site I heard of was either DrunkDuck or SmackJeeves and discovered a bunch of random comics but never followed any of them really.
I rarely ever follow webcomics on their own separate site since I hate the hassel of having to guess when they update. But the first webcomic series I actually dedicated myself to following was Ava's Demon around 2012. I was still heavily relying on the library for all my comic-reads. It wasn't until Tapastic that I began to read webcomics left and right. Only on tapastic though. The only comics I go out of site to read are currently Ava's Demon and Trying Human. I check up occasionally with Lackadaisy and The Property of Hate. But that's about it.

Oh! This is a pretty funny coincidence!

I JUST recieved my print copy from a webseries I've followed since 2007 which also was the year I started to read webcomics. Before that, I didn't really have a good internet connection.

It was Scorch and I loved the goryness of it.
I discovered it when I was about to publish my own first webcomic, and I found it on the newly updated tab.
The second was "Hanna's not a Boy's name" and I adored the thinking outside the box of that comic. It had some pretty awesome art too.

And I shouldn't forget "Strays" while we're at it.

That would have to be StupidFox. I was happy when it carried over to Tapastic, but it hasn't been updating, like at all. So sad.

Mine was Anders Loves Maria by this lady. This was in 2007.

I think I started with Scott McCloud's Morning Improv back in 2001. I'm not sure how I found it but from there there were links to others which then got me excited about webcomics in general.

The Morning Improv was basically Mr McCloud making up stories as he went along, drawing one panel every morning. They were based on titles chosen by readers I think. Some of them were great (Meadow of the Damned, Brad's Somber Mood and Somnivore especially) and some not so great but quite entertaining because it was obvious he was making it up each day.

I also remember paying to read his story The Right Number using Bitpass, a short-lived micropayment system around 2003 (it's free now though). That was awesome but it's a 3 part story and he only finished the first 2 parts. I did tweet to him to ask if part 3 is in the pipeline though and he replied that he did plan to finish it so I'm optimistic...

Toothpaste for Dinner was the first webcomic I ever read just as I got into college, around 2006. Simple, non-linear puns and irony and general absurdity. Fairly light reading compared to what the majority here is posting, wow. Feeling intimidated here.

The first first one would be hard to say, but sequential art was probably the first one I actually binge read.

The first web comic (excluding serialized mangas and physical comics) I ever read, I think was either Awkward Zombie, or the DA Death Note mini-comics that SilentReaper (aka the creator of Stupid Fox) used to do. The Death Note comics have sort of silently disappeared (but Stupid Fox is thankfully still around <3), and Awkward Zombie has continued to go strong since like, 2006.

my first webcomic that I've read other than OCT's was my friend's comic Kitsune, their comic is based after Japanese mythology and it's still going strong, plus her art's amazing! I really recommend anyone to check out her work! cx

Wow. I honestly don't even remember. I came across my first one back in 1998, possibly 1997, but there was a few that I read at the time. They include:

Ian Kim's Genesis
Clay's Aphasia
a bunch of round robin comics at a comic artist community; my favorite one was called Mystic Child, I... THINK? The only title from that collection I remember clearly is Point Blank Assassin, which I didn't actually follow, ironically.

I know there were more, but I can't remember!

So I'm the only one so far who started in the 20th century? XD

For Scibbles she said it was either Witchy or Monster Pop. She can't remember clearly which came first nor does she remember how she came accross them. For me, I think it was Newman (not counting korean webtoons).

I don't remember. (Maybe Max Overacts? I was also aware of Lackadaisy very early on) But the one that made me go WOOOOOW I NEED TO READ MORE WEBCOMICS!!! was (the now finished and still beloved) Dovecote Crest.

jeeze, I think the first webcomics I like read and kept up with were Hannah is not a Boy's name, and Paranatural, and Monsterkind back when they first popped up. Before I was reading Webcomics I was reading people's webserials I think they're called??? People writing books and they post like a chapter or so at a time. The first one I was like ///Invested/// in was Decembersville. Ah. Deviantart Days. I can't remember all the stories I read back on Quizilla, but I'd spend hours trying to weed out the naruto fanfiction on there and find people's original works to read hahah.

I read Nemu Nemu waaay back in 2006-07. I was around 10 at the time, and my classmate had showed the comics to me.
