Grammarly has been my personal choice of grammar checker for a long time, but the style edits they suggest are really annoying. I just want spell and grammar checking, not a program to reword my writing into the most tedious ad-copy-sounding novel ever.

I've been ignoring it for a while, but I wonder if any of you guys know a better option?

I just write in Word, it has its own spellcheck without forcing a style change on you.

I assume free alternatives to Word would have a similar spellcheck system. Maybe Google docs or something.

Also the fact that grammarly has genAI built into it, means it's something I wouldn't want near me. It makes my skin crawl in absolute disgust.

Google Docs only does basic grammar checks.

I will use GrammarCheck because it picks up things that Google Docs doesn’t detect.

Even the latest Microsoft and GoogleDocs uses AI now for grammar checking, so we cant quite escape it at this point. OpenOffice and Libra are still AI free for gramma check for basic word-like programs.

If you dont like grammarly specifically, here are two other options:
- WordTune
- ProWritingAid
