Guys, how do you draw your comics?

Hm... It really depends on my mood? If I draw "traditionally" … then pencil, inking pen, scanner, Photoshop (to clean the lines and add colors and effects) and if I feel more... "Digitally" then wacom graphic tablet (really old) and Photoshop

Wacom Bamboo Touch + Photoshop CS3 here. I do my panel frames, then do a rough sketch, then a secondary sketch that I might clean a bit, slap some purple here and there to display darker colors (and rarely - shades), add text & i'm done.
I'm actually doing more of a draft/sketch version of my comic, since I am still too insecure about my comic drawing skills & this is the story I have spent most of my time on, so I don't want to start working on it and then feel bad for ruining it. At least this way I know it's not the 100% thing I want to do with it.

I'd love to be able to draw traditionally tho. But as somebody pointed out, it's kinda pricey when you don't have a personal scanner... + whatever I scan usually ends up having crap quality and I can't edit those to look better if my life depended on it ;__;

I draw everything in paint tool SAI and just add the text and resize in photoshop with my bamboo comic (my one relic from my trip in japan <3)

SAI just has that built in Lazy nezumi Pro smoothing that i love so much <3 its so hard to use other programs.

I do the majority of my comics in Manga Studio 5 on a Wacom Intuos 4. I also bounce back and forth to Photoshop for certain things, depending on what's needed.

I do it all on printer paper, then scan it to my computer so I can do lineart, color, etc. I rarely do something straight on a computer unless I wanna redo a page entirely because it didn't come out right. And that's only happened twice so far.

Hmm, why it takes me so much time? I am always tired, so during weekends I make sure to rest well... So the only time I get to sit down and draw is after work... and I am usually too tired/lazy to do it then too. xDD Having some issues like easily tired eyes and neck problems doesn't help me much either. All in all, it's mostly because I am too lazy most of the time... and I wanna draw at least one other story simultaneously to this one, but seeing as I am having a hard time keeping up with one title... Urgh sends self to the corner

I do most of my thumbnailing on paper with just a pen, my sketches with mechanical pencil, and my final comics and art in Manga Studio 5, drawn with a Bamboo Tablet.

My main digital tools include ArtRage, Illustrator and Photoshop.

I use a Wacom Intuos Pro with a mixture of Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop CS6 (SAI for the actual drawing, Photoshop for stuff like text, panelling, file formatting, etc.)

I've tinkered around a bit with Clip Studio Paint but I'm still learning the program. So far, I like it, but SAI is still my strongest tool so I'm sorta just practicing with Clip Studio Paint on the side.

Yes, it is doable. Sounds hard at first, but like anything else, it gets easier after awhile.I've actually drawn with a mouse so much that anything else feels unnatural to me.

It's hard, but doable. I used to be pretty good with the mouse before I got my first drawing tablet when I was like, 14. Back then I used RateMyDrawings (an old drawing website that has honestly seen much better days) and my mouse. Made some pretty good drawings with it at the time.

Computer mice are also super good for doing pixel art with, as pixel art doesn't necessarily require pressure-sensitivity like most styles and mediums do.

I do rough sketches of each panel with a pencil, I usually start with an idea of what I want and develop it as I go, meaning that the final panel (also pencils) which I do after the skecth might have things that weren't initially in its rough form.

Then I ink everything with a nib pen (g pen) and chinese ink, after that I do what I hate the most: erasing all the pencil lines u...u

Then off to scan all the panels so I can add the screentones digitally using my mouse D: .

Also all the words are done digitally.

While I'm working I pretend that I'm famous and imagine that my readers want to see WIP pics of my pencil stage, inking and all that, it's fun (maybe?) oo.oo

I draw traditionally. Ink my pencil made pages, scan it, and color it in Photoshop or tone it in Manga Studio. (I just started to tone Dreamcatchers in Manga Studio as an experiment, but I like it ) Of course I add the text in PS too. In my future comics I wanna add the text bubbles too in Manga Studio, but I'm still practicing it ^^;

My comic is traditionally made using:

Strathmore Bristol Smooth Paper 11x17in
Faber-Castell H Pencil
Pink Pearl Eraser
Copic Markers
Copic White Paint
Prismacolor Color Pencils

As with any art process, I start with small, horribly rough thumbnails. That way I can see how the eye leads down the page and how multiple pages flow together. Once I decide on the bare bones layout and posing of everything, I then bring out the full sized paper and use a ruler to draw in a bleed edge and actual frame boarder for the page (I don't have the blue printed comic paper so I have to do everything manually lol!). At this point I draw out the panels and stick figures of the people. Almost 100% of the time I make changes to the sizing and spacing of elements on the page. Depending on the panel, I may draw in some rough perspective and/or environmental elements to better understand the composition. Then I draw the characters. If I haven't researched references earlier, I look for specific images now so my environment artist has a better idea of what he needs to make. I'm very lucky to have my husband as my environment artist because I am not very strong with backgrounds. Once we come to agreement on the final pencils, we scan them and bust out the inking pens. I always start with the boarders of the panels so I can maintain clean framework. Again, I ink the characters and my husband inks the backgrounds. Once the inking is done, we erase the exposed pencil marks. We usually scan the page again in case we need to restart due to a major disaster. I like to discuss color choice and techniques with my husband before jumping to markering. He has a sharp eye for colors and usually teaches me new ways to layer the markers to get unique colors or textures. When the coloring is complete, depending on the page, I will come through with a little bit of white paint to add back the shine to character eyes or add that glossy look to other things. Sometimes we use colored pencils to add finer details that a marker can't make. At last, the page gets scanned and up loaded. The original get stored in a portfolio book for safe keeping and that's it!

A lot of people use Wacom tablets.
I always found them quite difficult to master. Doesn't feel as natural.
I now work on a Mini Ipad with a Jot pro stylus and the Art Studio app.

It's good enough for me and I can draw anywhere!

Actually, when I first tried the Wacom Tablet, it feels awkward at first since I was used to traditional. But I already got the hang of it.

When I first started doing comics I used a bamboo tablet and gimp, but i had such a hard time with it during the 2 years I owned one. I got a job and saved up money to get a Wacom Intuos5 Large tablet and fell in love with it. Hoping to get a Cintiq someday!
But right now I draw comics traditionally on Deleter manga paper, scan it, then everything else is done in Photoshop CS5 and sometimes Manga Studio Debut 4 :3
