Hello guys. I am new here. I am preparing a story for a comic. But it feels like it will take a lot of time. Especially with all the designs needed. So, maybe I'll write it as a novel first. Nice to meet you!

Also, what to expect here? Anything to watch out or tips?

Hello and welcome!

I can't talk much on the comic side of things since I'm a novelist but if you have any questions I'll be happen to answer them. Or anyone here really, the community is great!

Some general tips I usually like to give is to keep an open mind and don't put too much pressure on yourself! It will likely take time to build up a following around here so focus on doing your best! It's good to have a plan in place on how you want your project to go (comic or novel) as it can make your life a lot easier, especially for bigger projects. Also, updating regularly and being active in the community (such as the forums) will help attract more readers to you if that's what you're aiming for.

Most of all, have fun!

Hello! Nice to meet ya!
Tapas is a very friendly little community, at least in my experience. Growth here is slow -- you'll be toiling away at your novel for a long time with only a trickle of subscribers, unless you get very lucky. However, the people you do meet are all fantastic!
My advice is, stay active in the forums and reply to your comments. I've had more success in building a small but engaged readership, though that's just me.
Best of luck!

Hi, new person, welcome to tapas!

I don't have any advice to have you because I'm kinda unreliable lol, but you can try to make a short comic first, you know. Maybe a 10 to 20 pages one shot for starter.

Anyway, have fun in the community!

Herrow! Hope your having a wonderful day! id say its pretty easy going here on tapas! just be nice to people and you usually get the same respect back

Greetings and welcome to Tapas!

Silver offered some particularly good advice here. Go ahead and start a short series (either webcomic or novel) as an experiment. You will learn more by doing than by reading a dozen how-to and advice threads here.

I see, that will work well I guess. I'll see what I can do for short stories.

Welcome! I'm not a comic creator, but I can tell you this...Have faith in your story and create something you love!

Hello and welcome!!

The most important thing is to always have fun! Create what brings you joy, focus on what excites you, and embrace every opportunity to learn!

You'll do great <3

Hi and welcome, I recently did a post listing various resources I've found with regards to making, promoting, distributing and publishing comics.

You can read this thread here:

I hope this helps.

Hello and welcome! I think you'll find the Tapas forum a very friendly place.

One thing I would say, regarding things to watch out for- if you're planning a story for a comic, and are absolutely certain that's what you want it to end up as- I would caution you against writing it in novel form first. Novels are a very different medium from comics and comic script writing is a very different process from novel writing. It can take quite a lot of additional work to adapt something written in novel or even short story form into something that is functional as a comic script. So you may actually be setting yourself up for even more work!
