How alike are you and your characters?

My main character have some traits of mine (it was faster that way to write the behaviour of the character) that i have exaggerated on purpose.

Actually my character (in my Tapastic comic) is my alter ego (but I think that "he's" a bit more extroverted xD).
However, I think that every character I create can bring some traits of mine, even that just one.

I can be a big fat baby like my protag and I can have a temper but other than that we don't share any other traits... she is really adventurous and extroverted, and I'm cowardly and introverted. Oh wait, we're both really prideful - I think that's about it though.

And of course there was that one self-insert character we all had a long time ago when we were young teenagers, and we thought it was the best character ever. Yuck...

Very much so. Not just Uzuki, but almost everyone in Time Gate so far. The only characters I can recall right now that have shown up so far that AREN'T based on a person in real life are Mitsuhiro, Solomon, and Clavinova. There are more characters than that of course who aren't based on real people, but they haven't made their appearances yet so I'm not gonna spill the beans

There are a lot of characters I have though that are based on friends and family members. It really makes it for an interesting writing process, seeing how they interact on paper.

I've always based characters mildly on people I know, not so much on me. That being said, all of my main characters are gay women, and I am a gay woman. However, I've done that more because I want to see more LGBT main characters without it being a main plot point, so that's just how my comics tend to go.

That being said, I've always wanted to be as brutally honest as Sam from BATAOB in my day to day work life. The customer service industry will do that to you...

Other than the fact that they both have both odd fetishes for wearing hoodies, I guess I don't really have much in common with my main characters in Shadosassins. I guess I'm close to the quiet and laid back attitude of one of my characters, but his brother, we share nothing in common LOL.

ultimately, i write what i know, and what i know is myself. i always end up putting small bits of me in a character, or otherwise changing myself to become more like them.

one of the main characters in my comic breakout looks an awful lot like me, because of the origins as a movie idea, and its hard to write a hugely differing character when youre drawing the spitting image of yourself. but hey, theyre different in many ways i think, and the more they grow the more theyre naturally different from me because they experience things ill never experience, what with living in the real world.

my other characters are less like me, although i find myself putting little bits of me in all of them, usually linking to music taste or film taste etc

Well I'd say my characters each have a piece of me in them, some more than others.
Some people on here seem to already know who Lucy (red head) and Mel are (the succubus)

Lucy: Just like me she is pretty short and stands around 5'1 in height so like me she faces short girl problems like not being able to reach certain things and may need to grab something like a chair just to get to the serial.

Unlike me she's vary laid back and keeps most of her thoughts to herself, she's not vary submissive and will put her foot down if need be.
Like me she also doesn't care much for leadership and would rather follow orders from someone else.

Mel: For me she kind of symbolizes my childhood being gone too soon I guess, I had to grow up rather fast and look after my autistic brother because mom wasn't in the picture most of the time. Mel is vary childish (will be explained why in the story later on) she may look like a slut but she has the mind of a kid that just wants to have fun and draw with crayons.

Jack: Jack is based off of a good friend of mine and was mostly designed by me xD he's like our son I guess.

Trent: I'd say out of everyone he seems to have most of my traits
He's one of the 4 main characters and is on the same team as Lucy, Mel and Jack.
Like me he's a bit timid and is submissive compared to everyone else, he's kind of a pushover which I tend to be also
xD just like me if you push him too far you will be in for a rather unpleasant surprise.

I think I created my character from a few traits of mine but they grew away and they are now there own person!
Feels like a raised a child, haha!

I sprinkle some of myself into all my characters, some just a pinch, others a whole tablespoon...

This reminds me of what I did recently. I took an MBTI of my characters and was pretty amazed at the results I got. They're exactly what the results say. It was also then that I fully understood why I'm drawn to one of my OC's, Theron. We are both INTJ's and I think I liked him most because of our similarities.

My character is based of my, so yeah he and I are pretty alike. We both like all kinds of music, are clumsy, see the beautifull things in life, can be very awkward around people and have a mind that seems different from the common crowd. That makes him also much easier for me to write.

I am in no way alike my characters about the way they look, but there's a little part of me in their behaviors and/or things they tell, or situation they're in. By the way, I try to keep some kind of distance from them.

I think I once read something from an artist from Legend of Korra that said that we all end up making characters that are similar to us somehow- be it personality or appearance. The artist was a skinny guy so he said he made a lot of skinny characters, and somehow Amon's mask despite it being just a mask does look like him somehow lol

I've also noticed similar traits in my characters too lol I guess it makes sense, you think of a situation and how to solve it, and your personal method is probably the one you think is the best way to go so they end up with your traits aha

I kind of incorporate a bit of myself into every character. Like an annoying trait or view on a particular thing and stuff like that... nothing much

My main character Keela is loosely based on me. I think everyone does this to a certain extend. When I started writing and drawing the comic I found it easier to have the main character based on me, and how I would react in certain situations since it started out as a first person narrative. Also, since I take a lot of pose reference photos she ended up looking at least a little similar to me.

Kalle Hizz is based on all of the silliness around. Things I've done that's been wrong, funny, loosely based on imagination, stuff I've happened to say, stuff others have said and caught themselves doing. We're all people doing stuff that seem weird at times, and Kalle Hizz is sort of the embodiment of that. Maybe that's why I made him into a blue dude with fangs instead of looking like someone. I didn't want to accidentally create someone who actually exists.

I'd say there's a piece of me in each of the characters I create. None are a complete cut out, but they are supplemented with traits I'd like to have and react to things in the way I would like to as well.
Not to say that they won't be making mistakes. Perfection cannot be allowed.

Schaeler, my main character, is really the exact opposite of me in so many ways that he's very very difficult for me to write and develop. I made him roughly 6 years ago and there are still aspects of his character that are difficult for me to grasp or take control of. He's quite challenging for me.

However, Dallas, my second main character, comes very easily and naturally to me. He's as complex a character as Schaeler is, but much easier for me to write and understand. I have lots of things in common with Dallas, from our meticulous personal image habits to our interpersonal relationship shortcomings... Dallas is also the more morally ambiguous of the two though, and if he weren't a main character he'd easily be a villain... not sure if everyone identifies the most with their villain? Lol.
