How did you come up with your comic name?

Naming my comic after the main character, Daniel, just seemed logical in the end since the story is all about him and his 'vampire issues'. I like the title, but the only issue I have with it is it's such a common name that it's harder to get the comic noticed in say, search engines and the like.

It wasn't the first title I thought of, but I can't remember what my first ideas were...I just know they were really dumb. XP

Extra fact - I thought about spelling Daniel's name in a more odd way, like 'Danyl' or something, but not only did I decide it'd be better for his name to come across very common, I also didn't want people to pronounce it wrong or think I didn't know how to spell. XP

I struggled to find a name for my comic which is an autobio piece about my my fall through homelessness and addiction and how I stood up again. I tried to think of something other than homeless, drugs, addict etc. Then I thought about the beach where I grew up surfing and where I was homeless, and the specific location where lifegaurd tower25 is, and deicded to name it after my favorite spot that I would go to to surf, hide, cry, or whatever. Naming can be a very difficult thing for me. I always want something clever but sometimes by trying to be clever it turns out cliche. I don't know how that happens but there it is. My original working title was pretty lazy, the Wilderness Comic. I tried to think of an angle to describe the substance of the story but I began to run into my usual problems. I really wanted to capture the core feelings of overcoming intense struggles, physically and emotionally. After bumming around Thesaurus.com and checking to see what names have already been taken by other comics, I finally found one that felt right. Visceral.

Naming was SUPER differcult for Silversong.

I know what the plot was, what it was about and who it centered around but picking a name was super hard. so .... I narrowed it down to a little teeny little aspect. One thing in the entire vastness of the story, a small thing that connected the dots. Something that been present since page 3 and no-one has mentioned as such but will be drawn attention to more and more as the plot evolves.

I'm crap at giving names to comics. Malleus Maleficarum had its name changed like 6 times or something, mainly because I adjusted the story and the focus kept shifting around. Once the concept of the story became more prominent, it was obvious to choose some sort of witchy name to fit the witch-hunt themes of the story. I ended up using the name of an already existing 1400s book entitled "Malleus Maleficarum" because I am SO original :'D

"Malleus Maleficarum" is Latin for "The Hammer of the Witches" - a book about identifying and convicting witches, which I thought was quite befitting to the story. Problem is it's probably hard to pronounce for some...

Stormspectrum is de name of my maincharacter, who is named that way because of the colorspectrum in his eyes. The colors are constantly moving, one of the other characters comments that the colors move like a storm.

I had many different work titles before I ended up with Devil's Acres. And even after I decided on it I was not sure if it would be the final name or not.

There are some streets in Germany that are called "Teufelsäcker", which translates into Devil's Acres. It was one of those moments where I heard the word, stopped, and started thinking about it's actual meaning. I found it to be a very odd name for any place really, and it made me wonder what must have happened there to receive such a meaningful name.

That made me realize how well it fit to my comic, that is about a serial killer.
(And it has another connection to the story as well, that I can not spoil however).

I wrote a list of first names and last names. Then I mixed and matched, until I hit on Bruno Harm. I was just perfect. catchy, almost a pun, but not quite. I feel like I got lucky.

Very cool to hear everyone's stories here. I've always found that picking a title for your comic or story can be one of the most difficult things to do!

It took me forever to finally settle on Burning Bright. Originally it comes from the poem by William Blake: "Tiger, tiger, burning bright in the forest of the night.." which I have always liked.

My story centers around characters who are animal-human hybrids, so you can guess why I picked a title from a poem about a tiger! It also just fit because one of the underlying themes of the story is finding your own strength and yourself - accepting the bad and the good aspects of who you are. "Burning Bright" just seemed to sum up that theme perfectly to me.

Funny thing about that. I sometimes like to name it based on the mood the comic will have.

Beautiful Lies sounds meaningful and maybe even deep. It's a psychological with unique feel to it.

Hunter's Paradigm....hm... well, if you know what Paradigm means, it's pretty simple. This is more of a shounen so it isn't meant to sound meaningful.

I have a tragedy called Immortal Cold...actually i think I named that that based on how it sounds.

The most meaningful title I have is Crux Veil. You have to know what those two words mean and apply it to the story.

The very first story I came up with was called Empty World. I called it that because I didn't really have a drawing style and it was terrible so it was about how the world they lived in was flat and meaningless. Then, the story completely changed while some of the characters remained. SOOO, that title has absolutely no meaning relevant to the story...kind of similar to Bleach.

It can be whatevah you want it to be. I like it when it matches the theme/tone of the story and has some meaning to it.

Outcasts of Jupiter was named as such because it focuses on a group of outcasts from what has become recognized as the civilized center of our solar system; Jupiter.

Under a Jovian Sun is named as such because it's a series of anthologies that give you a glimpse at what life is like for people in a solar system where the balance of power has shifted from Earth to Jupiter. The light that gives us life is no longer seen as coming from "Earth's Sun," but rather "Jupiter's Sun."

I came up with Maximum Speed and Violence during an art challenge and it was simply too cool of a title to go unused.

Back when I first came up with the story that eventually became Heart of Keol, I called it Blindingly Shiny Story because I thought it was poetic. I was a 7th grader... That's my excuse.

Last year, it became Heart of Keol, named after a location central to both the story and the world in it. In retrospect, it's not a good title, SEO-wise, because when you start typing "heart of" in google... yeah, there's no way my little comic can out-SEO a phrase like heart of gold. :< Live and learn.

Choosing the English name for the location Heart of Keol (it only has a name in Korean in the story) was an interesting task on its own. In the Korean version of the comic, the location is called "the isle of silence." But that kinda makes me think of... Silent Hill games? And sounds a little too... broody? The story has its share of broody and even supergrimdark moments, but it's not what the comic feels like overall. Thus I had to either choose a different translation, or do a transliteration.

SEO issues aside, I think what I've picked is a decent choice. Not excellent, not the best title you've come across, but good enough.

As my story it's all about memories, the first choice was "Memories", tho there's an anime with that same name, I decided to change. I then asked my brother for help as he is into mythology and stuff, he then suggested Mnemosyne. I chose Mnemosine instead which is the name in portuguese. Sadly I discovered later that there's another anime named Mnemosyne. Meh...
