Here's our most recent page from Under a Jovian Sun. The story's starting to pick up! [image]
My comics are saved at 300dpi in .tiff format, as the plan is to print them someday. However, when uploading to Tapas, I resize them down to 72dpi. Hope this helps!
Thanks mate, that's pretty helpful
I should have been more specific, I meant when artists/creators publish posts on Tapastic itself, not the forums. The kind of posts that readers get notified about, for instance.
So I've noticed that when some artists publish a post, they're able to include hyperlinks. I was wondering: how this is done. Is it BBcode, HTML, something else? are there options for bolding, italicizing and underlining? I'm also curious about whether anyone knows if there are plans to bring e…
I think you should do what you feel is right, and what makes you happy with your story. One of the great things about publishing an independent comic is that you're not beholden to anyone, even your audience.
Cool idea for a topic! Neat to see how other folks go about deciding on a name. Outcasts of Jupiter was named as such because it focuses on a group of outcasts from what has become recognized as the civilized center of our solar system; Jupiter. Under a Jovian Sun is named as such because it's a…
For me, it's subscribers. They represent the base that's most interested in what we're producing, and re more likely to share and tell friends. On a related note, I wish we were able to email/message subscribers directly en masse. I understand it's a feature open to abuse, but it would definitely …
This is what I do as well. However, I'm lucky that up till now, I haven't had deadline pressure on anything I've been creating. Since we're gearing up to launch a new series with somewhat regular updates, that's about to change though. Typically I step away, go do something else and then bam, I …
Cool stuff! That's not a bad haul for a month
Hello everyone, my name's Shobo, I'm one half of Coker CoOp (the writing half!) My brother and I created Outcasts of Jupiter, and we're getting ready to start publishing a spin-off called Under a Jovian Sun, next month. Our inspiration for the former was stuff like: Conan Asterix and Obelix F…
What are the best sites to use for selling products My brother and I created a comic called Outcasts of Jupiter, that was Kickstarted by almost 500 folks. We've got a bunch of stuff leftover that we'd like to sell, and the platform we chose is Gumroad. It seemed simple, cheap and easy. They don't…
I'm curious about whether anyone who has a popular comic is willing to share numbers/earnings? I'd do that, but our new comic hasn't quite launched yet so we don't have very many views at this time.
Creating a new mini comic isn't a bad idea, but it's a workaround, and we'd also want to include a decent amount of text in each update. Regarding blog-like functionality, I meant the ability to include more than one image in each notification post, use hyperlinks, more sophisticated formatting…
Been thinking about this a lot lately. My brother and I would love to post regular updates showing sketches, layouts etc, but of course not everyone's going to be interested in that sort of content. I worry that we could end up bleeding users. How often is too often? Is twice a week acceptable? On…
I'm not sure if they'd be classified as POD, but we used Print Ninja for the Outcasts of Jupiter physical books we sent to Kickstarter backers. They do offset printing for orders above 500, I think... might be 1,000. They've got great customer service, lots of paper options and are pretty accommo…
Lots of really great discussion here. I'll add my two cents. Having just seen Fury Road over the weekend, I was surprised at how willing George Miller was to just dive straight into the deep end and let viewers figure out social structure, classes and Wasteland culture on their own. It was refreshin…
Yeah, one thing I'll say is that I gained a new respect for the role of the editor. You kinda have to be a slave to story, understand structure, pacing, motivation. As a writer, you can get lost in characters, beats, interchanges. The editor looks at things and can decide that scene you love? Stor…
I think it depends on the editor, and your valuation of their abilities. If they come out and say "well this isn't marketable enough," then why are they interested in your book in the first place? The few editors I've come across in the professional comics industry have been razor sharp when it co…
Is the Tapastic YouTube channel still active? It says the last video was uploaded over a year ago.
Awesome, that's fantastic! Shof and I have gone ahead and signed up for the Thunderclap push. We're planning to launch our new comic next month, so this is pretty exciting. Looking forward to the ad sign up details
Last month my brother and I were looking for places to publish our comic, Outcasts of Jupiter, he remembered coming across Tapastic a while back and we thought "why not", didn't realize at the time it was also such an awesome community of creators and readers. Really happy we found this place!
Well, it also depends on the comic, my comic is structured very much like a regular print comic, so it can be a little dense. There are a lot of other comics on Tapastic that are long, but they were also designed for the web and breathe better visually. I had a look at Silversong (which is quite p…
Lots of helpful and reassuring comments here. I'm "serializing" my comic here on Tapastic. It was originally never intended as a webcomic, but rather a comic that could be published on the web. The intent was that the reader consume it in one or two sittings. Initially, I put all 44 pages up at once…
Hey, thanks for the link. Early on when my brother and I started working on our comic we looked at PoD places, Ka-blam seemed to be the best option, but we weren't really pleased with the quality, so we ended up printing 1,500 copies at Print Ninja. Comix Well Spring might be an option for the futur…
My comic is called "Outcasts of Jupiter". It's SciFi action adventure. Fun, rousing adventure A unique setting (The year 3125, Morocco!) Gorgeous art [image] If you do have a look, let me know what you think!
Hello, everyone! My name's Shobo Coker, my brother, sister and I are all artists, and we started a little group called Coker CoOp to make things together. The first thing my brother and I are made is a scifi action adventure comic called "Outcasts of Jupiter". Outcasts of Jupiter is a sci fi adv…
