I would think that Elisah would be pronounced ee-lie-shah and Elisha pronounced other way. To me Elisha ending in an a looks like a girl name while a name ending in ah looks like a boy name, that is just how I would see that name.

In one of my comics the names are pretty straight forward. Iggy and Eugene, in the other one maybe not so much.

Hadi- Ha-dee
Ghaleon- Gal-ēän

The site has a couple of sound clips so you can hear the actual pronunciation.

When I saw the name Ognjen, I was like "THAT'S IT. THAT IS THE CHARACTER'S NAME." I felt it fit perfectly.

Here he is:

i think i read that elisha is a biblical male name when i checked so it probably predates the "ending in a = girl name" thing

My main characters all have at least some Japanese in their names. ^^
Japanese "r" sounds are slightly rolled like in some dialects of Spanish, so they sound soft like "l"s.

Natalie Himura - NA-tuh-lee hee-MU-lah
Hayato Igarashi - HAH-yah-tow ee-GAH-lah-shee
Jin Umino - jeen OO-mee-noh

Japanese gets mispronounced all the time, but if you know Spanish the vowels and consonants are mostly the same, though the stress tends to go in a slightly different place.

haaaaa twaw name pronounciation is weirrrrrd

theres a whole Thing in the story abt cath's name being mispronounced. her real name is cethlenn (sounds like kettlin'), but bc shenanigans balor calls her cath.

and ive always pronounced balor as bah-lore, emphasis on lore, but i heard an irish dude say it in a podcast as bay-lore, emphasis on bay, and its like A: am eejit, B: I COULDA BEEN MAKING BAE-LOR PUNS THIS WHOLE TIME

indech is in-de(gutteral), the 'ch' pronounced like the 'ch' in 'loch,' and fual is foo-awl, emphasis on awl

Amelia is probably pretty obvious.
Hegel is like "Heg - L"

I guess they're both pretty obvious.

Ira: EYE - rah

Tristan: TRIS-tehn

Cana: CAW-nah

Sybil: SI-bul

Orsin: OR-sin

Darrion: DAHR-ree-EHN

Edward: ED-wah-rd.

Should be easy. But then again, my name is hell for people.

I'm back in session:

@BobbyjoeXforgotensb: You know, I would also get annoyed if people pronounced a character's name that simple.

@Lamina: I'm sorry, what?!

@stnmaren: (Looks in Holy Bible) You're right; it's a male biblical name, and a powerful person too.

@elanor: Interesting [Japanese] names from you! The proper pronunciations for Natalie and Jin could take some getting used to. Hayato's name seems to be simple to pronounce! As for the last names, they have some good meaning in them (e.g. Himura means scarlet, red).

@GabbieWolf: Great names! Ghaleon sounds like a powerful villain's name.

@Iris-Grimoire: I think Elise sounds like a cute name for a girl! Silent e, huh? So, Quasannon is pronounced Qui-annon?

@punkarsenic: I don't blame you. Sometimes, name pronunciation can be weird. So, balor is "bay-lore", indech is "in-dessh" , and Fual is "foo-awl", got it.

@TheBlankScroll: Obvious but good names.

@amcodamonkey: Your characters' names are easy to pronounce in a good way, including your name. So it's "Am-code-uh" monkey, right?

Haha I never though of that! Her name does sound like the car!
I didn't think Vivace sounded girly. It actually belongs to a male character. It means lively, while Nyota means star

I'm a little afraid of this question. My characters' names are not too puzzling, but some of my place names are peculiar. If readers spend too much time messing with tongue twisters, isn't that a turnoff for them?

Elise does sound very cute and fits her! I wish I remember the thought process to get to it, though, it's been so long. And Quasannon comes from Quasar first, so it's a Kways sound at the start, I should've been more clear about the name combination.

@Karumtoo-Rexo Yup. The kanji I use in my head for the names are as follows:

Himura - 緋村
Igarashi Hayato - 五十嵐速人
Umino Jin - 海野仁

I don't use the kanji anywhere though, so there's no way for my readers to know. lol
