How large do you draw your comic?

@DragonPena I did some googling and apparently Adope Photoshop Touch has a max document size of 2048 x 2048 pixels. At 300 DPI, that translates to 6.8 x 6.8 inches. I think that's a decent-size small print, but still sounds pretty small for a printed comic. I hope someone else can give you some advice!

I've been looking into a couple of printers. I'm very torn between doing per chapter issues or something like a 3 chapter books. Per chapter issues are nice but the upfront cost is too high for the small volume and I'd have to wait until I've got enough material for books.:')

Ok, so I downloaded the app, did a quick sketch using 2550 x 3300 and it looks fine.. But I hate coloring on photoshop.. It might be because i jsut started using it but .. c'mon.. x.x I guess for drawing only black and white comics it will suffice.

I draw my comic on B4 sized comic paper, and when I scan that I scan it so it is 4444 x 2616 for two pages. The size I post online for my own website is 1400 x 797 for two pages, so if I have a two-page spread I can't cut in half I have to resize it for this website. Which is too bad, haha.

Larger size. If anything I started is digital, most isn't, it is at whatever size the new canvas is when I open it. For me, 940 pixels is really small because of the level of detail I work at.

I don't know the specifics right now. All I know anything done traditionally from me is scanned at 300dpi at the typical America size 8.5x11.

I started drawing my comic at the exact size I would upload it and at 72 dpi. It was a terrible mistake. It looks nice online, but I had to print a copy for my table at my country's Comic-Con a couple of years ago and it was a nightmare. If I ever want to publish it for some reason I will have to redraw a lot of it and cry. Of course, I stopped working like this once I realized the comic had gained a certain amount of readers and people started asking about printed copies, but the damage was done. Now I work with a much larger canvas and at 300 dpi.

So, basically there's nothing wrong with drawing with the final file size if you want, but it might give you troubles later. It's better to play safe and just work in a larger canvas and a better resolution.

I draw on 11X14 bristol with a 1cm bleed. I scan in at 600 dpi, so my full size files are around 6000X8000px. These get shrunk down twice--at 940 width for tapastic, and then 700X900 for my website. It's kind of a pain, but when I used the same size for both some readers said that the comic was hard to read on mobile. So I figured it's better to take advantage of the full 940 width.

There is this one panel (not page) I finished earlier that's 9000x3000 pixels. That's definitely a big exception, though!

My comic doesn't have pages. It's a vertical scroll comic, so the height varies. The width is usually 3000 pixels, though sometimes I go bigger/wider. I'd go higher -- say around 4000 pixels wide -- but first I'll need to get more RAM and some extra storage for my computer.

For Shrive, I do 800 x 1280, only because it's the size LINE Webtoon requires webcomics to be.

First I sketch my pages on A4 paper, then I scan them and draw them at the size I'll use when printing - That is 134 x 188 mm (which includes 6mm bleed) at 600 dpi. It'll mean less resizing later on. Of course the size of your file depends on what size you want it to be when printed. : )

Photoshop has a marvelous feature of resizing images to whatever pixels you want in width and height. I've been personally using MS office picture manager and it turns a bit blurred when in zoom in. But on this website it ain't a problem.

It then gets scanned at 300 dpi, and then re-sized to 50% of that before being smoothed off in a photo editing program.
A5 sheets are small enough to fit in a document wallet in my satchel, as I go forth and back to work. They're also nice to work on in a confined space.

My other weapons of choice are Artline 220 0.2 fineliners and Artline 750 Laundry Markers because they don't bleed on the page.

I keep my series Life of a Homeschooler around 500-550 pixels wide, simply for the sake of convenience, but it could change depending on if I have to change the medium from digital to traditional... And my average artwork has no limits

Unless it's a vector image. Vector images can scale up or down without pixelating. I love vector!

I draw using vector layers in Manga Studio. 600 dpi. I can actually see a difference between a 300 dpi page and a 600 dpi page uploaded to tapastic in my comic. I think the 600 dpi looks better online than the 300. Also the thumbnail images and facebook image you select when up loading an image seem to look better at higher resolutions than the lowest web dpi, 72.

I just started using vectors too, I love them! In Clip Studio Paint, you can edit the lines after you draw them, AND they take up less file space than raster layers, which is awesome.

I draw on A4 paper, scan it and... get lost with the file size ! I finally agreed with myself on 1024px wide after loads of random sizing.

I usually do 11x17 at 600dpi. I have a photoshop action set up to flatten the layers, reduce with to 940 pixels and resolution to 72.
