How Long Does It Take You To Finish Up a Single Page?

It seems that I'm getting a nice flow of work that a page for me takes about 3/4 or even if I have to stretch it 5 days max.

There so much going on in a page that it includes plenty of color and details with me trying to make it as good as I could with what I have skillwise.

So how about you? Does it taker just hours, few days, a week?

Everyone has their pace when it comes to completing a page. It isn't necessary has to be a race or something.

I do all of one task until completed, but it'd probably come out to 2-3.5 hours per page.

My process is a bit weird though. I go through my script and draw every background in separate file so that I can easily copy and paste where needed. This is where the bulk of my time is saved in the long run, and it got me into doing more detailed backgrounds as a result. Then I go through and pencil my characters into the scene for every page of the chapter, then all the ink, and all the colors.

It probably sounds odd, but when I'm in a specific mode I get a better heads pace. I think of it as penciler, inker, colorist, letterer.

It takes me 1-3 days to complete a whole page depending on a few factors.

1. How complicated is this page?

2. What does my work schedule look like?

3. Where is my own mental health and motivation at? Sometimes I need to take a break, especially if I’m working on an update that has some difficult subject matter.

Usually I will go through and draw all backgrounds first. Next I do sketches and lettering for each panel. Then I do all the line work, coloring and shading before my final pass to catch any typos or other errors.

I must map this out actually:

1. Sketching the panels: takes me anywhere from 1-2 hours.
2. Inking panels: takes me: 1 hour or even 1.5 hours if there are a lot of panels.
3. Then I scan the pages and then work on them on my digital art program which can take anywhere from 3-5 hours I edit the lineart, add the dialogue, and do the coloring.

So it can take me similar amount of days as @Golden_Acorn mentioned: 1-3 days depending on my daily schedule with all my other things going on xD

And this is super important, it's always good to realize when you may need a break when things in your comic/novel are hitting you hard or even in your own life. This happens to me and it also happens to me regarding my physical health as well. Sometimes I am physically unwell on certain days and just have to realize I can't push myself to do anything but rest. Thank you for bringing that up @Golden_Acorn ^^ Super, super important!

I typically aim to finish a page in 5 - 6 hours, but my work also isn't in color. Cheers to everyone who works in color and dedicates days to creating each page of their story!

It takes me a couple of days to get a full-colored page out; granted that is using techniques to speed up the process, but I am getting faster though.

I'm embarrassed to say. Haha! Like two weeks sometimes - depending on what's happening on said page. Which is mad as it will be probably be read in seconds.

It's my little escape though, so I don't mind.

It... wildly varies depending on the medium I'm using, lol. My prologue and the first chapter were all done in traditional technique, but for chapter 2 I'm switching to digital for most pages... not because it is less time-consuming, but because it costs me less (seriously, I was running out of markers every two pages while working traditionally D: ) and, given that my country is still being subjected to random lockdowns due to Covid-19, getting traditional art supplies may not be as easy in the future.

So I'd say... from three to five hours for traditional coloring and up to seven hours for digital only? ._.

I usually have to do sketching on a separate day than everything else.
I get motivation so I sketch 1-8 pages depending on how long I have to spend on it. the pages vary by panel but ill say 45 min per page.
then on days when i have less creative juju I can listen to music and just chill doing lineart which per page is again like an hour of tracing
then another separate day I finish with the color and tones and junk. which is at least an hour.

So Per page its roughly 3 hours spread over 3 days, because of the way my brain works.

Inking is my favourite part too. You can just switch off for that bit. It's a nice break between the horrors of sketching & colouring. Haha!

Well, I'd hazard a guess that one page takes around 4-5 hours. But that's spread out over a month of working on a batch of five-ish pages simultaneously.

I usually work on the whole chapter at once, I find the art turns out more consistent that way, how long that takes depends entirely on the chapter length tbh but when I do work on a single page from start to end its between 2 and 4 hours total depending on how much detail the scene has

So far i have been sketching out one chapter at a time, and i dont really know how long that take tbh

But to finish my pages after the initial rough sketch/thumbnail is done (detailed sketch - text/ballons - lineart - color - fixes) it takes between 2-5 hours per page according to procreate (i would be totally clueless how long it takes if it wasnt for procreate )
But I also aim to have a very simple style and as little details as possible so I can get pages done fast. Those that take me close to 5 hours is when I have a bit more detailed backgrounds.

Usually, if it isn't colored (and if it is a manga page) I take around 2 days to finish a page including the tones, and typesetting the dialogues. If it's colored however, it takes around 3-5 days, including the shades/tones and typesetting the dialogues, depending with how many panels are there in a page, how complex the scene is and if it has detailed background. On average, each page I'm working on have at least 5-10 panels in scroll format.

I hear backgrounds are the bane to a lot of artist's existences xD And I get where they're coming from. My more complex backgrounds are time consuming and a bit tedious but so worth it ^^ I always push myself to make more setting-the-scene backgrounds rather than my more simpler ones. I can appreciate people who make backgrounds even ones that are a bit more simple but still take time and work!
