How long have you been working/ will work on your comic?

I’m just curious since I realized that my comic’s gonna be like 20-something chapters long and I’ve been working on it for almost a year and I’ve only finished 2 chapters... so that means like 9 more years of working on it which gives me vertigo
I love my comic but the feeling’s a little overwhelming

How ‘bout you? Does this happen to other creators as well? Do you have any long term projects?

I accidentally started with a long story so I've been working on my comic for 12-ish years and I'm a little more than a third of the way through the planned chapters |D I started when I was 14 and probably won't finish the darn thing until I'm like...40-something. I'm on chapter 32 out of 90-ish, and I finish 3-4 a year, usually.

I've been trying to work on other, shorter projects on the side, like the novel I've recently started posting here, so this perpetually unfinished comic isn't the only thing to my name.

But, yes, I try not to think too hard about the time investment because it just...makes things worse

I was just having this conversation yesterday with a friend! Lol I started my webcomic 2 years ago and it takes me nearly a year to finish just one chapter. I have an ending in mind but I honestly do not know how long this webcomic will take XD

I've been working on undercopper for I believe 2 years or more (like a year before getting the idea and building up the concept, right now I know what charaters I want, several arcs and how the story will end) and depending on popularity It might take 3 years or more than 10 to finish it. I still have to work xd. But if it was a source of income My maths says (3 pages per day, 18 pages per chapter, a chapter a week, every other week would be uploading, 50 chapters to go, it would took me around 25 weeks to finish the comic) but for now cause it's a hobby the updating is slow as the work flow xd

Been going a year and a half, and it's gonna be another year or so before it's done.
I'm working on a lot of other scripts though so once I'm done I can move onto the sequel. Yum.

for the first two years of my comic i didnt know how long id work on it, i was the embodiment of this gif:

recently i decided the whole thing is gonna be 14 chapters - so roughly 300 pages, completed just over a year from now - so 300 pages in just over 3 years.

you could totally speed up over time! some chapters have taken me three months, others one - it depends on the chapter length, content, whats going on in your life... all sorts. however, if thats starting to feel overwhelming, maybe look at your story and see where you can cut down and compress?

Let's see, I've been working on my comic for 3 years, I've (almost) finished 3 chapters so far. I'm not quite sure how many more chapters I have left, but I'll guesstimate that it's be another 6 or more years till I'm finished... that is if I continue to hold up a fulltime job while working my comic.

Sometimes I think "wow, I'm going to be in my 30's by the time I finish a comic I started in my 20's. Would I even be able to make that kind of commitment?", but as long as I'm enjoying the process of working on it that's good enough. I know I'll feel pretty awesome when it's done.

3 years for my two oldest stories.

As time goes on I'm starting to realize I enjoy doing these 'shorter' comics more. My long epics that are still on the back burner I'm afraid I'll never turn into comics/graphic novels. I'm thinking my best bet is to novelize them, then they can at least be published in some fashion.

More than 11 year on two long comic. Dreamcatchers will be 27 chapter long and I'm currently drawing chapter 21. I wanna finish it in 3 years, but I am slower and slower... so maybe it will be 6 year XD. (Hell no!) Furusato House will be 32 chapter long, and I'm working on chapter 16.

I started building/creating my webcomic in September of 2015, scripted the 1st chapter in January 2016, started production in March 2016, and finally launched it in May of 2016. Currently working on chapter 3, so I've been at it for about three years now; not sure how many chapters my comic will have but I do know it will be over 15.

I've actually been working on mine for 8 seven years, all things considered. I released two graphic novels in greyscale, and have now gone back over old work that is being released in full color here on Tapastic. There have been a couple of years where I barely touched it and other where I worked on it like crazy. I keep the illustration style pretty simple so it never gets to overwhelming for me.

Actually been working on Powernote for a good 3 years. Just started sharing it online like a month ago. Big reason why it went for so long was because for a good while I wasn't able to settle on a good art style. Honestly, I'm still tweaking it. But If I had to guess how long I plan to work on it, it would be most likely 5+ more years from now.

Even if my viewership doesn't grow a lot, it's still a story that I want to tell and it's something that I want to see to the end. I'll do everything in my power to complete it.

Yeah, I’m getting better at drawing pages faster (at least I think so XP) so hopefully it won’t take that long to do the same amount of pages... Also I’ve tried to compress the story many times and I don’t think I can do that anymore, but I’ll check it anyway. Thanks for the advice!

The idea for my comic, Garden Variety, came to me 4-5 years ago. After fleshing out the story, then cutting it up into 3 independent series, I'm finally confident enough to start posting it. Just to clarify, I'm drawing the first series as I write the script for the second.
