I really don't think it's a matter of time tho. I'm not a senior in comic making by any means but I've been working on the same story for around 6 years.

I'd say it's all a matter of your mindset while working on the world. I only add the secondary characters that affect the characters directly (family, an important past friend, etc) and it's most likely because I get super carried away everytime I have to work on a new character x'D I'd probs wouldn't be able to get as involved with that many characters, that's just not the way I work :3c

I know for a fact you can have hundreds of pretty interesting characters, but it just doesn't work for me

Hexameron has 2... okay lol, 8 main characters including the Guest + I guess for now it's 3 more important characters like Pavla.

Master of Keys basically has 3 characters.

One sci-fi comic in progress has 2 MC, another one - 4.

School of elements has 8 main characters + around 6 characters I'd consider important.

13 Worthy of Death has (huh!) 13 characters + like 6 more other guys to kick those 13 around.

Honestly, I lost count. In just one comic I have about 30 characters.

I have like three other stories in progress and lot of characters that just are there. I can think of new characters like crazy. I had a friend once and we did rp a lot. I ended up making over 400 characters, but I don't use like 99% of them anymore, so I don't think they count.

53 characters for 6 unrelated universes, +/- a few more

A while ago, I counted every notable character I could think of from every story I've written in the past 15 years or so. It ended up being 300+, mostly thanks to a couple of particularly large storyverses I've written/contributed to, haha.

Uhhh are we talking within our comic's canon or just characters we've created period? Because I have like, literally hundreds of those.

Again, any and ALL characters. If they show up in one panel of a comic, or if its a crowd, that doesn't count.

Ugh, god, uh...

Totalling up Dark Hope, plus the two WIPs... oh, plus the character vault...

I'm gonna estimate... 25?

Really lowballing it, that's pretty small considering the size of the character vault.
But whatever, it works.

Lets see here. The main family in the comic has: 11 people (Though they don't get equal attention), there one main antagonist, 12 currently un-named characters , and 6 others that show up very briefly/ have minor roles. theres technically others but those are only names for the sake of family trees and never actually appear. so in short 30 characters that actually appear

for a full list of named characters I've made a post of the Family trees on Tapas:

its a great way to tease viewers about future events and to keep my own head straight about everyone's relationships

If this interests you at all why not check out the main comic TLC?:

My comic has 4 main characters, 3 other important characters, 3 important dead characters in flashbacks, around 15 other characters with significant 'screen' time, and maybe 50 ish unimportant characters (background characters with no or little reoccurrence).

Jade Kingdoms has about 150 characters. Fleshed out too, because I don't fuck around with my characters. XD Everybody gets a background, everybody gets their lore. My novel is important to me, so I want to show every bit and piece of it the love it deserves. :green_heart:

Some of the Jade Kingdoms characters:

My current novel has 30 characters that have been named name or have appeared more than once, as well as handful of characters that have appeared only once or twice but don't have much importance.

My comic currently has a total of over 30 characters involved in the story.

Just put a number on it. There IS no such thing as too many characters.

I've only got four characters in my comic. It's a comparatively short series (in total about 260 pages over 6 chapters) and I didn't want to overwhelm the narrative with a bunch of half-developed characters who I wouldn't have time to properly flesh out in the timeframe of the story.

I did a quick count of the characters that appeared on season 1 of my current comic and counted 41  These are all characters with name and backstory (in some cases minimal, but still). There are quite a few more incoming over the next chapters, but thankfully because of multiverse, some look very similar to others so I don't have to design them from scratch.

A long time ago I had a spreadsheet where I would carefully keep track of the characters from the stories I wrote. I wonder how many I'd have by now if I had continued it.

I only have 5 characters so far, but they like, definitely know some people. For sure.

That seems kinda normal for Romance though? I felt oddly guilty when I saw 150 getting thrown around there yall.
