How much backlog did you build up before posting your comic for the first time?

Maybe a month's worth of pages? Like, 8? I remember wanting to just dump them all but I knew the right call was to wait and post them as planned.

I have the story all ready and a general outline of how each chapter should go, but in terms of drawings I had Chapter 1 (15 pages) all drawn out when I started posting. I ran out of buffer in the summer because I didn't get much time to draw, so now I just have chapter 2 all sketched out and draw the lineart and coloring each week for the page due.

I completed Season One of my comic outright (one page a week for a year, 52 pages total).

Before I post Season Two, I plan to have 52 pages worth of it completed also; as well as Season Three, Four, etc. (I have up to Season Six planned).

I will do it like this until I die because if I ever find myself on a hiatus, I don't want to leave my readers in the middle of the story... It seems like hiatuses come right when the story is at it's most engaging.

Probably too much...
About 60 pages.

My comic currently is only on about page 45, and rn I still have about 30 buffer pages.

Like........3 months worth of backlog plus 5 updates during the first week.

I miss those "i have a lot of buffer" days.......

One year, and I only have a few months to build it back up to another years worth of buffer before I get busy and then basically can't work on it again for 8 months.

I post once a week and had four weeks worth of buffer. I relaxed, a bit too much, and lost all of it soon after. Now I have 1 page in reserve, meaning I have to work all the time to keep up. I'm doing fine for now, but if I sense a burnout coming I'll take a break. But some people work better under pressure so they don't need any buffers.

I did the whole chapter before starting to post it. So that was about 54 pages and at one page a week that's a year of backlog

I made about a year's worth of buffer. So about 50 pages of content with a 3 week hiatus between chapters. Unfortunately I can't work fast enough to keep up and when illustrating my outline, I come across weird story bits that need rewrites so that kinda slows me down. So I'll most likely go on an indefinite hiatus sometime in Feb next year. I was originally going to have a 2 year hiatus, but I got eager.

I posted the first 4 pages at once and had absolutely no buffer. For the first six months or so I had a very irregular update schedule until I started getting the hang of it and was sure that I wanted to continue. Only after that did I start updating once per week, but I never built any buffer except on special occasions.

That makes sense. I would think less of a backlog means more spontaneous ideas. So it definitely is both good and bad.

I go through periods of inactivity (or periods where my attention shifts to other things). I don't think I could manage having to do it as I go along. I find it much easier to do several at once, then take a break. But everyone's different, some others might need to work on something steadily to keep the creativity flowing.

Well the story is one of the harder parts. But that's terrible that it got wiped!!
