How much buffer do you have?

I don't think of myself as the average Tapas creator, but my buffer is usually 0. Technically it's usually negative, since I'm always behind schedule...

And on those rare occasions when I do have a buffer, there's no guarantee that I'll use it. Deadeye is buffered 20+ pages on multiple sites, but I still don't update because I just caaaaannnn't for some reason.

There's no motivation...basically, I don't feel like anyone will even miss it (which isn't exactly a delusion...). Plus, there's the despair that my buffer will run out eventually, and I'll have to post new updates to 4 different sites at once, which I caaaaaaaannnnn't even more...

Wait... so when your buffer level gets low, you just postpone releases for a while?

What are all those sites you're publishing on, btw (as an interested author but also avid reader, full disclosure)?

I have two series that I update weekly. Ones a simple 4 panel slice of life so getting a large buffer for that ones pretty easy. My other series takes me longer to make pages so I have to make anywhere to 20-25 pages completely done between two months in order to reach my weekly updates which used to be single pages, but I didn't like stringing my audience along so I started doing 2-3 page updates weekly. If I don't do it this way my work will look far too rushed even for my standards, and my audience deserves better than that from me. Except my webtoons audience cause I can never balance getting those updates done on time for some reason.

Everything else, HAHA.

My novel is good tho with enough edited content for 2 months I think! So much easier having content at the ready for straight up prose than comics.

I... USED to have a buffer of around 3 months for my novel, but then I realized that I needed to edit an important scene at the very beginning and... well it changed a lot of what came afterwards, as well, of course. For the better (MUCH better lol), but still: since then, I have basically 0 buffer because I have to edit/rewrite everything that I did have lying around.

I'd be able to work on a buffer if not for the summer heat that's pretty much killing my pregnant ass right now, but until then? I'm just glad that I can maintain my schedule... so far.

I should really star building up larger buffer considering it tends to fluctuates with me. (Still getting the hang of a more assembly line batch format of working on comics) But I try to have at least 2-3 weeks worth of comics ahead.

It fluctuates from month to month depending on commissions and a general desire to take multiple breaks in between. I used to be a month ahead of myself and I’m currently only two weeks ahead. It usually goes back and forth between this depending on how many days off I get and how may backgrounds im drawing x3

Backgrounds are the death of every time crunch.

im covered til mid august and it feels sooooooooo goooooooooood. i think the biggest buffer ive had has been like, 3-4 months? which would be 12-16 updates. i usually have a chapter complete by the time the last one finishes releasing.

that said, im playing fast and loose w my buffer for this chapter bc instead of breaking my drafting and making into chunks, im doing the whole draft in a chunk and then only getting started on the make afterwards. will prolly produce a better product, but will mean watching my buffer dwindle slowly....... terrifying

No buffer here and I usually finish the weekly page right before I upload it. I did try having a buffer a few times but it completely ruined my work flow and routine, so I guess for me no buffer works better.

A buffer is something I've very recently started acquiring in my comic life. XD
It's only 2-3 pages ahead for each comic but it is nice to know that it's there.

I guess so; yeah. When I have a huge buffer, I'm enthusiastic, but as soon as it gets to the point where I'll use it all up in mere months, each new post feels like another step towards the gallows...so I slow down.

There's Tapas, DeviantArt, Smackjeeves, and Comicfury (I've been off CF for so long, I had to google what it was called 6_6;). I'm also on Webtoons, but Deadeye isn't there (yet?)

At my prime I was like... 5-8 pages ahead at a 1 page per week type schedule, but then I burned through it all in December/January and have had 0 since then It's made me come to the realization that for my next project I'd rather do all the work up front and then post after I think (or at least like full chapter by full chapter, or wev format said project ends up being haha)
