How much time have you spent planning your series?

I actually like to share my work with people so this is pretty much my first draft. (It was edited by a professional editor so it's not really completely my writing.) But I haven't done and complete rewrite so far and don't even plan on doing one. Only perhaps the early chapters.

I also wasn't really a good writer when I started writing. My formatting was all over the place, I had a bad habit of writing too much unnecessary description, etc. Overall, I would say that I couldn't have even considered myself a writer back then. But I feel like I'm already seeing some progress in my most recent chapters.

It's a very well known fact about me that my memory isn't really my strong suit. Names are my arch-nemesis. Whenever I read something, I'm happy that I can recall the name of the MC.

That's why I need to write down any ideas I have about my story and publish it regularly. So that people point out if something doesn't make sense.

I use an app called Scrivener. It's an app designed to help writers plan and write. Really helpful. I have character sheets, chapter analysis, lists of foreshadowings, plot outline and much more there.

Actually, I spent a lot of time planning it during the writing process than before. The plot came to me so clearly, especially after a period of honing my skills and becoming better and better at making all kinds of stories.

I cannot fully explain it, but this book I'm writing right now...yeah this is the one. This is the one that will take me to places and open many paths for me.

I felt the exact same way about my book. I actually had like 30% of the plot figured before writing. The main plot points and some parts of Volume 1 but not as much as I have now. I planned a lot of stuff on the go and just tried to make everything work.

My native language has much simpler grammatical structure than English, and it is easy for native English speaker to "spot" it by the diction and word choices even if I manage to be grammatically correct. It can be frustrating at times; but if people still want to protest while reading for free, they might as well edit it for me

Maybe that is why I tend to be more understanding of hobbyist writing with some grammar mistakes; they are unpaid and therefore often cannot afford an editor (even if there are grammar checkers, humans are better), they also probably don't speak English. That is different when it's professional (whether it's trad pub, self pub, or even premium creators here); you have very little excuses.

One of the loophole I created is to make majority of characters in my series does not speak English or speak different English. Although it is frustrating when people trying to correct it even though it is meant to be incorrect.

That's a pretty interesting thing, about characters speaking broken English I like that.

I personally correct people's grammar but with no ill intentions. If I spot a mistake, I point it out so that other people that might not be as tolerant aren't bothered by it.

And I fully agree with your point of us not being professionals. The problem with many readers is that they expect professional standards from people that aren't professionals. And what's worst, they aren't even paying for the services/novels.

I have spent quite a bit of time planning my series as it is multimedia. (Writing, art, music, animation, and a game.) It is four years in progress with much more content to be released!

I don't like spending a lot of time on the plot before I start writing because I have a tendency of overcomplicating things and losing interest really quickly. So it's often the dumbest and simplest ideas that end up as actual writing for me. I jot down some of the basic plotpoints and character motivations and as I write, I jot down any potential side plots, side characters, etc. that I come up with. If I'd write all plot stuff beforehand I would feel like I need to stick to that as closely as possible, now I can just tailor scenes to fit with how the characters end up behaving.

How long are your series usually? Because I feel like this approach works for shorter series but if you want something that will span multiple books, you need some more planning. I personally at least do, since I can't remember what I ate for breakfast and I would forget I wrote something without planning it.
