How often do your release your webcomic?

Hello Tapastic Community!

Happy New Comic Book Day! We all know that every Wednesday we can stop by our local comic shop and pick up the newest issues of our favorite series. However with flexibility of publishing online we aren't beholden to some predetermined schedule.

So I ask you my fellow web cartoonists — How often do you release your webcomic? Do you have a fix schedule you keep to? Is it once a week, twice a week, every day? Do you have a fixed day you post on? So on and so forth.

Personally I publish my webcomic The Working Stiff, once a week and always on Wednesdays because, I just can't seem to get away from that NCBD tradition.

Right now I only do once a week since it's all I can do to keep up. If I ever have a time when I have a lot of buffer to work through I want to update twice a week. But yeah, once a week is all I can do since I have other things to tend to.

I'm in the same boat. I tried to do a daily, then a 3 a week, then a two a week. The schedule kept slipping or the quality was going downhill to meet my deadlines. I feel like setting a realistic schedule you can keep up with from the start sets you up for success more so than an unrealistic schedule.

Four times a week with weekends and wednesdays off, usually used to make more comics. I currently have something around a week buffer, and I hope to keep it up so that I never run out of time to make anything.

I remember when I tried at first it was a mess. I was stressing myself out and just exhausted, I got pretty far with it but I had to stop because I burned out fast. I ended up rebooting my comic and keeping to something simple I can handle. I really can't believe there are some people who can do more (unless it's there job anyways) .

But jokes aside, I can't work if I don't have deadlines lurking from the corner. If I updated once a week, I would probably only find time to do one page a week. My time is magically dissappearing if I have nothing to do.

Well like you i started trying to be daily and it was pretty hard, after a long time i thing a i stick to 3 times a week in Monday, Wendesday and Friday

For Grassblades, I release one page every Monday, and one page every Friday, so twice a week. : ) I'm able to keep that schedule up, even with a full colour comic, because I have a very big buffer of pages (50+), and because I take a week's break between each chapter. And also by being obsessively organised about it.

For Wishlight, I'm releasing one update a day for 24 days, as it's a calendar comic, but I finished the pages in mid-November.

Also, for the past year, while working on Grassblades and Wishlight, I've also managed one 30-page oneshot, one 12-page oneshot and one 7-page oneshot comic, as well as a 32-part illustrated story for Inktober, and right now I'm attempting a daily challenge of doing one illustration per day inspired by my tea-calendar - Tea Witches.

.... I'm a workaholic. Don't see my example as one to follow. It's only recently that I've been able to get my sleeping-schedule back to a healthy pattern.

For Socializing101 it's weekly on Sundays, although I take a week break every month so I don't burn out since I post a lot of content per update.

For Cosmic Fish, I update twice a week (Tuesday and Friday, though the Tuesday update moves to Wednesday in tumblr). Once classes end though, I hope to update 3 times a week before the next semester starts since i'm a little behind on my desired plot-schedule.

Honestly thats a really healthy output and over the course of a year you've managed to build up quite a nice body or work. When you can't focus on it full time setting realistic deadlines (once a month, every day for 3 weeks ect) and just keeping at it is the best work to actually produce a substantial amount of work.

Whetstone is updated every Wednesday. I am constantly working on it since it is my main job right now.
Visceral is updated about once a month or less depending on life. I try to work on it as best I can on weekends. I worry that I will disappoint my Visceral subs due to the infrequency. I only wish there were more hours in a day.

200 pages of comics in less than a year (I've got a couple of weeks to go yet) would be a very healthy output - if this was my job. But it isn't. I do this in my spare time on top of everything else I'm doing (professional illustration work, eating, sleeping - you know, life). I did those 32 Inktober-paintings in less than two weeks, because I had a bunch of work to get done in October, as well as a 3-day comic con to attend. During 2015, I've found myself sleeping too far too little just to keep up, which is not healthy.

As I said, I'm now back to sleeping healthy hours again, but it's a struggle - sleeping less has been my way of coping with stress (more hours awake = more hours to work), and I still do get stressed.

But I do agree with you that setting yourself deadlines and sticking to them is the best way to get things done. Drawing regularly is the best way forward. : )

Once a week, but I try to always have at least 2 pages to upload. That's something I learned from one of my heros, K.C. Green. As a reader, it always felt like I get a little bit more out of a post that had two pages and I didn't feel as anxious waiting for the next update every week. This was especially helpful during scenes of action or rapidly moving story, where only one page would feel less satisfying.
