I just read you comic @bulkybug.
Personally, I like the art style. Your lines are rough and sometimes sketchy, but its consistent. I personally love that style so it is defiantly not a bad thing! Your characters have good silhouettes and I can recognize them in different angles, which is also good.
Story wise, it took my interest. It is something that I defiantly have not seen before (I.E super powered mascots). I liked your occasional humor too ("Kids these days. Too soft for cyanide."
).
As for your page layout...
I think it's fine. I mean, if you are only releasing your stuff on TAPAS or Webtoons, maybe you should consider doing a mobile friendly page layout. But again, your text wasn't too small. Your panels didn't flow weirdly either, my eyes naturally flowed from one to another.
I guess some people just get used to the sort of page layout that is common on these site and don't like the traditional layout? Mind you there is nothing wrong with that, but it is a personnel preference.
Hell, my comic is in a traditional page layout, but only cause I want to eventually print. Basically chopping up my pages and making it flow a completely different way to how I drawn it is too much effort. Effort I could have been putting towards creating new pages.
The only problem I have, is the last page. I have absolutely no idea what is happening. There is a guy strumming his guitar (got that, but still could probably confuse some people cause it isn't really clear), but then the last three panels I get lost.
Is it an amp that is screaming? Where is it on the opening shot (is it the white blob near the character?)? The location around your character wasn't well defined before we are trusted into this scene. Same for the guitar. You could have fixed it by having your character facing us with the guitar clearly in shot and maybe having his foot on the amp? Or just clearly showing these two aspects would have saved in unnecessary confusion.
I get that this is only part one, and you'll probably get to explain what just happened, but for now it will leave people puzzled (in a bad way).
Overall, I say keep going with what you got.
Not everyone will like it, be it story or artwork. But then there are people like me that do like it. There is nothing wrong with your art or story, but just that people on these platforms do have a certain tastes.
Things that are popular are BL, Slice of Life (probably more so towards cute girls instead of rooster powered mascots), Romance and whatever else would be featured on the home page.Tag these with an Anime style or other popular styles and you got something that will probably be very popular
Things like Horror, Gaming, Drama or Mystery in a more stylized art or your own style that isn't similar to other styles aren't as popular but that is because of the audience on this site. Nothing wrong with that but it is what it is.
As for not getting readership and engagement, I say don't worry about that just yet.
You have just started this comic and only have one other series. Compared to the people who have been doing this for years with one massive series or lots of little ones, you have nothing to compare it too.
Keep releasing content consistently and you will eventually get people to like your stuff. This sort of thing takes years to reach. You can't be like a high school dropout that just done high school drama and then complaining why you haven't made it in Hollywood after just moving there. You have to build yourself up to these things!
Keep drawing! Keep making things you love! Get better! Don't worry about viewership, just tell a story for the love of the craft!
