How would you personaliy feel if you comic or novel blew up quickly

I sorta experienced this? My comic blew up quickly over a short amount of time and it was pretty cool but a good portion of my audience is very young... and really passionate about shipping the characters. It’s awesome that people like them so much but some of the comments are a bit... ;v; wew

tbh though I’m just really thankful it’s doing well. Every fanbase has its goods and bads and I’m lucky to have one at all

Ehh, like other people are saying I think it depends on how bad. I feel like every sizeable fandom has a bunch of bad apples that spoil it for a lot of people, but often that's overblown so I wouldn't really care. If it resulted in me or anyone else being personally put at risk, I would definitely be a lot more concerned.

Overall though, I would definitely prefer a small, dedicated fanbase to a large toxic one.

I've refused to watch, read, or even listen to certain fandoms when I learn their fandoms are batshit insane, purely on principle that I don't want associated with them. I wouldn't want people to have to do the same to my comic simply because of outofcontrol nutsos. I quietly enjoy things, that's just how I am, and I don't get why people can't control themselves, so. If my fandom were to start getting nutso, I'd start posting public "stop that shit" PSA's to clear them out. Only the fans who actually care would stick around anyway after I was done, so nothing lost should half my fandom bail, right?

Personally, I think creators occasionally saying such a thing is healthy. Nothing wrong with telling people to stop acting like jerks.

If I gained a bad fandom, I would be sharp like a knife. Especially if people start trying to pressure me how I should write my stories and how I should write my characters. It's one thing if I end up doing something problematic. But most of the time, it's not like that, it's "you didn't do things MY way and I want them MY way"

I write my stories first and foremost for myself. And I share them because I like to share stories. I would rather have a small, loyal fandom who are decent, supportive people than a giant fandom that's toxic and have fans attacking each other. I won't settle for that.
