I am going to donate about $15K USD to a poor family in the Phiippines but...?

Okay I have always wanted to donate money to the less fortunate and I have been heavily inspired by Asia since I was a kid, so that is why I am choosing a family in Asia to donate to

Should I make sure to choose a family that doesn't have any odd habits to make sure I'm not giving all this money to a family that might squander it or am I being too judgmental?

I really believe in giving back, so I'm fully onboard with this

I do not think that picking the benefactor of your gifts is being "judgmental".
If you're so rich that you need a tax deduction & just want your money to "go away", then maybe you won't care what happens afterward.
If you mean for your donation to do some actual good in the world, then I think you should take some care where it goes. Otherwise, you may accidentally fund someone bent on making the world worse in some way.
Also, something I've read about... bestowing too much money in one place, one person, one family, can create trouble where there was none before. Perhaps your money could buy something that benefits a family or community without perhaps triggering fights over the division of cash. Or perhaps spread it out over many recipients or over a span of time (like a patronage).

There are child sponsorship programs which give to poor children and their family. However, most of the monthly donations are a small amount but it’s over a long period of time.

Usually it’s not good to dump a lot of money on someone at once. It may cause more issues for them than actually helping.
