And taking it a step further -- just give more likes, comments, and help promote the stories you like. The webcomics community has always thrived on doing these things (long before hositing sites became a big deal), so I'm confused as to why that would suddenly be stopped or slowed down.

I just find other ways to support the creators I like, especially if they have completed series. I would rather promote the stuff I wanna see more of and make a big stink than wait around and hope someone does it for me. And that's just in general.

Ink is only one way to give support. And as you can see on Tapas (and as I've seen since 2017), people crave audience interaction. So if you haven't gone through and given any recent links or comments, maybe now's the time.

I'm saying this without the mod hat on. I'm saying this as someone who struggled with getting more people to interact since 2017. If you can't give ink, at least give more links, comments, and help promote your peers.

And a lot of us here already do that, so this is not geared towards the usual people.

As a self employed person, I get that.
But the issue is that they promoted the event as a community event, and then veered on another course, dissimulating and lying in the process. And it is not the first time. It seems to be the usual way to go for them, now.
It's a very cowardly way to avoid big backlash, exodus etc. The alternative being stopping all community events and focussing overtly on their only actual focus, Premiums.
Every person speaking against this kind of way to do business is helping. Yes, sometimes businesses may have to stop providing a service to part of their customers to refocus on more profitable ones. But there is no justification for the lies, fake reassurances immediately followed by backstabbings, and borderline scammy moves.
That attitude of not caring at all about the community creators BUT being apparently terrified of losing them, is not very professional imo.

i wholeheartedly agree but i think in terms of response the best course of action are the things jenny mentioned above along with the quote

like for folks who've been here a long time we've seen this decline with tapas so from my perspective or rather in my own opinion it's merely a matter of time before it al comes back to bite them in the ass. like i want to see community creators do well it's something we've been vocal about or tried to be for years but tapas has kept on trucking with their current pathways and we see where and how it's leading them so i guess the only thing to get them to pay attention will be the resulting consequences of their misleading and deceptions

Lets make their fears a reality :smiling_imp: (im aware ppl really cant but omg)

I was angry this morning after knowing that the rebate inks are in bonus form.
But I found a way to support authors that I truly enjoy... the MATURE content authors!
Since I only enjoy Early Access for Lord Have Mercy, the next place I dump my bonus inks is Yona by DarkBox. Hope he would come back to Tapas and cash in those inks.
Overall, I'm still a little unhappy about the bonus ink though. I thought I would be able to support independent authors who I really enjoy reading. I'm just dislike spending it on Premiums and other Early Access works that I don't like.

Hahaha
I was more interested in reading
"the admiral is a villain's daughter who is also a cat and a teacher at my tyrant academy!"

Its almost as if the titles are created using post it notes and a dartboard!

It's honestly become so bizarre that parodies have become nigh indistinguishable from the real thing it seems.... XD

Tbh this is one of my favourite things about modern isekai. Like how weirdly descriptive can a title be while still trying to be different. I love it seeing what they come up with.

Lol, agree, it's like nowadays I swear the titles get more and more ridiculous. It just makes me go what?

Well, I still have some authors that I enjoy. Also, the wording is blatantly unclear so I suppose I shall know once December comes what it is and what I should do with it.

Not gonna lie, I wasn't really that surprised when it was revealed that the ink we're getting back was bonus ink. Tapas has gotten a huge surge in readers over the past year and Tapas has also gotten acquired by Kakao entertainment. Not sure if it was their parent company that made them change it, but I feel like they thought it would be a good marketing move. Since so many readers got bonus ink from Inksgiving this year, they're kind of forced to read and unlock premium comics (Which are mostly Korean and Chinese translations) in order to use up your ink. Bonus ink also has a fee on it as well I'm pretty sure, meaning Tapas would take something like 30% (an estimate) of it when you use it to unlock a chapter and with how much ink was donated this year, Tapas would've have to give back $9.6k worth of ink, which wouldn't be that profitable. I'm not trying to defend Tapas, just saying why I thought they might've done this :sweat_02:

Also for the fees when cashing out, Tapas is actually not that bad
Yes Tapas does take a 30% cut on App Store purchases, but that's because the app stores themselves, (Apple and Google Play) takes a 30% cut.
For web purchases the fees are 15% which I do think is a bit high, but let's just move on from that :sweat_01:
Tapas doesn't take any fees at all from the ink you get for watching ads and completing offers, which I really appreciate
Lastly, (Ik I've been writing a lot) Tapas reward rates for their offer walls is actually the highest out of all the other English Translation companies out there. (I read a ton of Manhwas and Manhuas, which is why I know)
For example, Tapas holds many 2x and 1.5x ink doublers throughout the year for their Tapjoy Offerwall and the overall reward rate is higher too (Typically 70% higher than Tappytoon and Lezhin)
For the offer, downloading the app Pluto Tv, Tappytoon rewards you 1000 points (Which works the same as ink, 300 pts to unlock an episode) and Tapas rewards you with 1,700 ink for the same offer.

(Tapas is also holding a 2x ink doubler event for their offerwall right now, so now's a good time to stock up on same ink and for these sort of events, Tapas is paying out of their own pocket to give out the 2x ink, which is really generous of them)

One very last thing, comparing Tapas to other sites, Webtoon, TappyToon, Lezhin, Webcomics, etc, I defintely have to say that Tapas is the best option out of all of them, this includes the staff, the community, the reader experience, the fees, the reward rates, free ink, the creator tools (Scheduling episodes, viewing your stats, etc), and more.

I'm sorry if I was biased here, but I like the Tapas platform and I don't mind reading "Reincarnated in another world as a stylish pair of pants and also being bought at a fantasy world's Old Navy for a reasonable price to be worn by a villainess who is also me" :runner: I just like these generic tropes for some reason :sweat_02:

well yeah, they said it will be unlocked for inksgiving , if they would allow creators that have low amount of subs ( like me, i have around 96) there would be no point in setting milestones, maybe they unlock it again

this is confusing me as well, i mean if i give ink to unlock paid episode, i just paid that creator, why can't i give them ink via donations?
edit: it could be so you don't make different accounts to support your main one with free ink, but you wouldn't be able to become rich from doing that

is it bad, i cant wait to see what they say about it monday, and the outrage they'll get thrown at them?

Oh dear, after series of unfortunate events on Tapas, then again on Tapas Discord, I am consider searching for alternative. But I still have some fav authors only publish on Tapas.

The question is... sorry, a bit off-topic here... but that's the point right? it's on the Off-topic section..
Are the moderators over Tapas Discord plays some role in the company itself?
Also the moderators at forum, are they the same team?
Are the forum gonna be removed and permanently be on Discord?
I simply wanna find out.

We've also been wondering these things for the past few months, despite our efforts to remain hopeful in the face of Tapas' nonchalant attitude  The closest we got to a direct answer almost felt like a mockery of our fears of the forums getting taken down so.. take that as you will

Ouch... then I have to follow where my fav author goes... scattered in the middle of nowhere... like a tiny piece of sand...

11 days later

The ink cashback is here, and it is a normal ink which expires in 2022. You can use it to tip other creators.

Thank god.
Hopefully next time, there'd be a clear communication between Tapas and users. This misunderstanding can potentially break trust and confuse people. (And I cannot believe they don't even make an official clarification in the forum)
