Okay, so you know when you've got a very big grouping of ideas that sort of work together but there are so many that you need to cut something off so it's not A: Overwhelming for you and your readers, B: all over the place.
It wouldn't be fun to read, but it might be a lot of fun to write that sort of thing.

These ideas are video game related, and I wouldn't mind if you all threw in suggestions either- Because a collection of ideas from multiple people might be more interesting than one person's... rambling.
They are also separate, and I need to figure out which are fine to collide, and which should be tossed.

  1. The game used to be a real world. The reason this is first is because it is probably the oldest along this track of thought.
  2. The ultimate AI awakens from their deep sleep and begins their journey, with (basically) amnesia.
  3. A girl who was recovering? from a breakup gets stuck in the game.

This bit is too long to fit into one line, and I'll try to keep it short to prevent any undue spoilers, because this is the one part I'm pretty much sticking with out of everything. It's also like... Pre-story-story that I won't really do, but it's there.
A scientist couple attempts to solve the immortal problem of mortality by uploading brains to the internet, resulting in the wife's inability to return to her body, and her eventual spiral into insanity because if Intelligence Deterioration. (ID from now on.)
So, basically the husband attempts to recreate his wife through AI based off of real people, and he decides to use a video game as his base to do that from- Resulting in AI based off of mass player data and emotions and so on, but no actual repeats of what happened to his wife (Uploaded Intelligence.) until 3 happens.

Fourth is an idea that I can't really fit in anywhere because it doesn't really work-
AIs have to fight for points in order to keep surviving, and eventually they also deteriorate mentally.
Of course, I could remove the second half of that idea, but I don't see any reason that it would happen or why it would.

And that's basically all I have.
Also, a last not as important question, how would an interactive story best be done?
Roleplay?
Choose your own adventure?
ARGs?

Idk you gotta make your own decision. I usually spend up to 5-6 years before I decide on something and 1-2 years in pre-production. It takes a while, a long time. Maybe just keep at it until it falls together, it's really up to you. I've been rewriting a story for months which took years in rewrites and idea changes.

What you're referring to is known as killing your darlings.

And there are certain things you can do to help you with that.
