I'll have to say, your first drawing/oc on a tablet came out good for your first time.
Here's my ugly first attempts at my ocs, Alec the human, and Friar, the Chicken XD

And after a few years...
Uh, ignore the heights, I thought 5-6 foot was tall for men for some reason XD gonna change that...

Here's a dryad I have for a series I'd like to make when I have the money to impulsively buy a tablet lol. Her name is Sylvia. She's a Wisteria dryad.

And this is my sketch of my female lead from my comic "Hushabye Prince" which I am not illustrating myself.

This is the artist's version

I just got back into drawing in 2022 after almost a 30 year hiatus. I did the same thing that you did: I bought a tablet on a whim (in my case it was a Microsoft Surface Pro 8).

Here is the first character concept that I did for Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days:

I was never happy with the way those characters looked, so I redid them:

As I got more familiar with modern digital art software I improved:

Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days drew to a close, so. Started up my first attempt at fiction, Finding Daecon’s Way.

Here’s one of my first drawings of my OC, Daecon. He’s a shapeshifter and is the only one that can form animal/human hybrids such as human/eagle shown here.

Here’s a much more recent design. I’ve loosened up my style to work with my shaky hands. I think it’s a vast improvement:

It dawns on me that I’m only a few years younger than Alec. Hopefully I don’t look that old yet! (I have no grey hair yet!)

My grumpy skull, Skully, who does not like being a hat holder :3

You did super great for a first digital drawing so keep it up :sparkles:

Here's a recent oc I made for an art collab, he's yet to have a name but I love his design so much I plan to make a more complex drawing of him soon

Looks great! I really like the simple but effective way of shading.

I'm more of a writer, drawing is quite hard for me. Since I draw digitally, it's a bit better, cause I can go back and forth as many times as needed.
In November last year I finally dared to draw one of my main OCs, Veidja. She's a battleangel, a fighter, hence the build (and the more grim expression :yum:).
I hope I'll be able to draw her (and her counterpart N'Arahn) more naturally; for now it's really difficult for me. I never learned how to sketch, so it's always a "big project". And when that goes wrong... Sometimes it's years till I try again. :confounded:
Well, that was a bit off topic. Sorry!
Here is Veidja:

And some very bad doodles of a non existent comic with a broken acronym.

Their names are Jubilee and Innocencia

Here's the mains of my newest story.

The mains for my other story in Barbie meme format:

And the mains for my humor supervillain/superhero story:

And for my upcoming story:

Paul looks awesome and cool artstyle and warmup practice, I like the way the tatters on his pants came out. Wishing you good luck drawing uncle Howard and the cat :cat2:

Been dabbling in more 3d than 2d these days (as the comic series is in 3d).
EvanMoriarty 2d versions (concept art)

and his 3d version from comic based on the concept art, with some costume variations after constant battles

Crimson Panda
The last full 2d thing I did a few months ago for a Chibbi Pile

And his 3d version from the comic series

I have been reading everyone's replies and they all make me so happy. Your OCs are all gorgeous <3

Also, thank you to those who complimented Paul! I'll see if I can include more artworks in my novel in the future. You guys are so inspiring!!

I like your art style! He looks adorable.
I think getting a drawing tablet was the right choice, haha.
Here are some pictures of my OCs:

@ThunderChicken
XD so true! I had thought about changing his age to 69 (thought he'd be 18 and drafted in the Vietnam War for a prequel/flashback thing, unless my math is wrong). Course he'd be working past retirement age now(67 in US), but that suits his personality.

Being time/age-accurate is hard,

It's really hard to keep up with changing times in a comic, unless you're Lynn Johnson of For Better or for Worse - she aged her characters in real time, including famously killing off the family dog. One of my favourite mainstream (ie, newspaper) comics is Zits. When I first started reading it in 1997 the parents were of the age they'd have been late teens in the late 1960s - they were portrayed as aging hippies, and all of their musical references were sixties and seventies bands. The strip has continued since then, nearly 30 years, and yet only two years has passed in comic time (the main character, Jeremy, is seventeen, he was fifteen when it started). Now the parents would have been teens in the nineties and Jeremy would have been born in 2007. Unfortunately the creators, who were themselves sixties kids, do not know nineties references well.

Similarly, when I first started reading FoxTrot, I was Peter's age (16) and thus related mostly with him. Now he's still sixteen, and I've even passed his parents in age (I'm 52, they're 43/45).

Most glaring, though, would have to be The Simpsons. Bart was ten in 1989. He's still ten in 2024. Earlier episodes had Homer and Marge in high school in the seventies. Later, they were in HS in the 80's... then the 90's... then the 2000's...
