I had cats when I was a kid-- but I'll just start with the pets I got when I moved out. I had cats first, so I'll start with them:
Romeo
I had about an hour to kill before work (at a fast food place) and I decided to go to the pound. I was just going there to look! My first cat I ever had was a boy, so I have this tendecy to always want male pets. He was the only male cat in the pound. I asked to see him-- just to hold-- and as soon as the cage was opened, he placed his front paws on my shoulders and started rubbing all over my face. How can I NOT take him home?
So of course, I called in late to work, went to the petstore to buy cat supplies... and to name him. I named him Romeo because he kinda looked like the cat from Romancing the Stone-- and it's name was Romeo. He used to jump up to me when he was younger, but now struggles to jump up on the couch. He's still a sweet heart... but more cranky, more clingly in his old age (he's 18/19!!!) and lovingly-- an asshole of a cat now. He picks on the other cat--- stubbornly wakes us up at 3am for food-- hates closed doors-- spills his water dish on purpose and sleeps like an old man-- next to me every night now (he was more independent, sleeping everywhere until about 2/3 years ago). I wouldn't want him any other way.
If he could talk, his most used phrases are "Momma" "Hey man" and "I'm not a baby..."
Marbles
Again, I was just going to look! She was in a cage along with her brother (who was super cute, with white little boots and a white chest) and her mother. They had been found in a dumpster, and momma cat couldn't climb out with them. The girl kitten was very brave and was playing in the front of the cage with me-- whereas her brother did not... so I decided to take her home. When I got her, she could fit in my hand... so was so tiny! She looked like a little marble-- hence the name. She's more observant than Romeo. She plays fetch and loves fish over fowl. The sword pattern on her back has disappeared as she grew older and now she has freckles on her nose... she has quiet mehs, never meows, and just started to snore in her sleep this last 3 years. It took her 5 years to finally accept my husband... and it's cute when she did... you can just tell. I like knowing that she's only known one home her entire life.
She also sleeps with me... which causes problems with Romeo...
Her voice-- for some reason-- is a old cranky smoker woman's voice... "Oooo... fud" "Tssss..."
Dee Dee
After my husband's dog was put to sleep, we went for a year without a dog. It was a very empty feeling... even Marbles was going through stress with the change (she was pulling her hair out on her front legs!) So we went to the pound to see about a dog. That one turned out to be too big, so we just looked around and my husband found her. She was quiet and the right size we wanted and we decided to adopt her.
She has brought us so much stress and anxiety (when we first got her)! She had separation anxiety and would bark and howl all day long. She didn't like to eat-- we pour BBQ sauce (for dogs) on her food, give her wet food-- not feed her for a day sometimes-- just to try to get this thing to eat her food! After much reading-- a 2nd dog seemed like the solution... BAM. She ate her food when given... stopped howling whenever we left the house. She still has issues-- she's scared of anyone chewing bubble gum, hates the garbage truck, or any truck... and hates riding in the car on the freeways. But she makes us smile and she loves people (and she's smart! knows 14 tricks and can pick up on new ones very fast!) I taught her to turn off the floor lamp in about 10 mins. Her name was so close to being Scully or Dana... thank gawd I thought of Dee Dee!
Rocko
Originally named Roscoe-- this rescue mutt entered our lives because Dee Dee is a crazy dog.
I knew I wanted a boston terrier-- and found a rescue that had a boy. We spoke on the phone and told me he isn't 100% boston, maybe a mix-- he has a tail-- and I was like-- nah not a problem. Then I saw him in person-- I thought "Wow--- he's really funny looking."
He is definitely my dog... He's super skinny and tall for a boston-- who is very ball centric and loves to sing. Like-- at everything. Also, he watches TV. Like-- really watches TV... he doesn't like people staring at him in person OR on the TV. He is so expressive and predictable. He will not eat his food unless he performs tricks.
His nicknames are "Nock Nock" "Nocky" and "Ugly"-- lovingly so!
