If you could erase one trope and multiply another

I would delete forever is friendship solves everything. I absolutely loathe stories where a hug or telling the villain "lub will save the day" solves everything. If this was a cutesy story with no risks I could understand that but this is done in super serious stories with high risks. It feels like the writers just gave up.

Trope i'd like to see more is Face–Heel Turn: character that goes from good to evil but not cause of some stupid magic or curse, but they generally had a change of heart.

Also I would like to add that please somebody kill the mary/gary/larry fucking stues, my god are the the bane of all writing. And please more rivalries like asta and yuno where the rivals are actually friends and don't just want to kill eachother

Because we the audience would sometimes ask "wait, when did they get this power?" and the lazy answer would be "they had it within the whole time" and why only now does said power only activates during a critical moment in the story like during the final battle or save someone important to the mc or one of the side characters.

I'm guessing it's a parallel of what happens in real life, humans usually can only use 50 to 70% of our muscles cause if we used any more than that we would tear our muscles right off the bone (even if you don't train your muscles to have this power at all times, your brain just limits it cause you would die). But in rare circumstances (like when your baby, father, mother, lover, etc is under a bus or car rare) we can use 100% of our muscle strength and we can do amazing things (bending metal or lifting a truck are some examples that have happened in real life)

I think the problem with the troupe is that there are no consequences for the use of the new power or an actual justification for the absence of said power. So instead of eliminating it I would say change it a bit so it's more interesting

I want to forever completely and totally erase the trope of when a character did a bad thing and then someone they care about says something along the line of "I'm glad you would never do that". It just makes everyone feel bad watching or reading it and it's just not something I enjoy anymore. It's okay to want moments in the story where a character has to fess up to making a mistake, but this just really pours salt into a wound that already sucks.

If I could multiply a trope, though, I'd like there to be more amicable break-ups between characters in a relationship. Sometimes breakups suck, and the two people end up going their separate ways, but I think its important to acknowledge that sometimes relationships just don't...work out, not because anyone did anything wrong. They just weren't a right fit. And it would be cool to see more characters have a peaceful break-up without completely exiting each others lives.

Erase: Animal side kicks that act like dogs instead of the actual animal they are. Also Animal side kicks that talk, and I'm not talking parrots I mean perfect spoken human dialect.
Multiply: Animal side kicks that don't speak perfect human language and act like and have the body language and communication skills of the animals they should be

I'm not a fan of stories where you gradually learn that a character has a history/past of excellence at a particular skill/sport/art that they abandoned for "reasons", only for them to have to whip out said skill in a crucial time of need, thereby reconnecting with a part of themselves that they had tried to run away from.

Basically the girl in Jurassic Park 2 who uses her gymnastics to kill a raptor.

I also dislike "Chosen One" stories. More Neville Longbottoms, less Harry Potters. I also feel like indulgent overblown "world-building" is becoming a lame tropey thing.

A trope that I like is characters purposefully bringing themselves or someone else, to a state of near death in an attempt to see/describe what the afterlife is like. Flatliners, Martyrs, The OA, etc. have gone there. I also wish there was more media about reincarnation and people finding each other across life spans, like in Cloud Atlas and David Mitchell's other books. (Though I hate protagonists who are secretly reincarnations of gods or something silly like that).

Erase: Angelic dead mothers
Having a major woman in the story be dead/non-present and having her be referenced as a young beautiful pure woman. Also, the story not allowing her to age or have flaws or any complex character. She is just used as a plot device to make male characters and/or young women sad. It also becomes more annoying when the dad is a hot mess. Why can't women also be hot messes?

Multiply: Badass older women
We need more kickass grannies. And that being a strong independent woman is not only for young adults.

I want to say I want to erase love triangles, but this means I don't get the "love triangle but instead of one of the love rivals ending up with the target, the two love rivals end up together instead" kind of stories and to be honest shitty love triangles are a small price to pay for more stories like that. At least love triangles are mostly hated and I don't have to convince people why it's shit.

Instead, I'll erase the "we are not so different, you and I" trope. LISTEN. Making parallels between your MC and your antagonist is okay, maybe even a good idea! But if you use this line verbatim in a showdown between the evil monarch whose brainwashed people and murdered thousands in comparison to the young, rebellious teen who literally discovered their powers two weeks ago without any context, then I'm gonna stop you right there. Your audience isn't stupid, dear author, we can notice parallels when we can and when it's properly established.

Since Nick has already mentioned Badass Older Women (very valid by the way, I agree) I will present something else to multiply: soft domestic men who just really likes taking care of the people he loves. Doesn't necessarily have to be dads, although that would be great too.

Well.......there are not inherently bad tropes, but there is poor execution.

Even the tropes that annoys me the most, like the unneccesary misunderstanding could be parodied and used for comedy.

Personally i would erase the moments of idiocy that are out of character and are there just to keep advancing the plot.

And which trope i would multiply.....Battle of wits: I just love seeing two or more clever characters trying to outsmart each other with lots of strategy and lateral thinking. I understand why this trope is not too common. Is really hard to write well, but would love to see more good implementations of it.
