Every now and again, I would read a comic/manga and think to myself "dang I wonder if I should've went down this artistic route instead."
Do you have this feeling? If you could pick a whole nother style/process to develop and make your comic with, what would it be? Lets see some visual aid comparison too

Mine would be the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind manga.

If I had the ability to do so, I would change the artstyle of Nixvir to a more generic manga art style. Don’t get me wrong, I think my art style is improving, but I still can’t see it transitioning well to animation.

Sometimes I cannot help but thinking that I just want an art style that is appealing to the mass. Even if it is "generic", it might be better because that is maybe what's audience want/like more. It often also has a high-level of rendering and lavish details (I know those are brush assets, but who doesn't use those?), with conventionally attractive characters, which draw the audience attention and making it easy to digest

My own art

oo yeah I didn't even think about future prospects in other media. Do you mean you would like to transition into animation work? or your comic being turned into a cartoon/anime?

Probably not, it would not hold up in translation, really.

Yeah sometimes I wonder what elements I can take from these more generic styles to make my work a little more appealing to a larger audience, without changing my work too much lol.
That said, I much prefer your style, and any art style that's unique. I actually avoid the generic looking comics. Not putting down the gorgeous art, but it just makes me feel like there might not be any variation in diversity of race, gender, and body types, and the story won't contain any subversive elements.

I am hard core feeling that lately. I enjoy the cartoony way i draw. I can draw something and try e next day not hate it.

But it is very apparent that my style is a small niche lol or maybe just flat out not good.

I really like your normal style btw!

thanks. The issue is it takes a lot of time and I'm just noodling around trying to figure out how to make everything works half of the time.
For what its worth, I actually really like your art style. Reminds me of mid 2000s cartoon, particularly of the 2008 TMNT series somehow lol

I've always wanted to have one of those more cartoonish animation meme styles, but I also really liked the pretty painterly anime styles, and whichever one I pick I end up liking the other better. The thing is, they're almost polar opposites, and I want to have a consistent signature art style, if that makes sense. aaaaa

For example:

But then there's this:

I actually don't think these are too far apart! I can easily see one artist having a cell-shading style and a painterly style while maintaining the general proportions consistent across the different styles. :smile_01:

For me, I often side-eye the epic fantasy environment artists and wish I could incorporate more fantastical, big worlds into my art. I can draw backgrounds, but I often don't, and when I do, the characters tend to still be the focus. But I love when there's a sense of scale or grandeur.

One of my biggest inspirations is the early 00s artist only known as "Yukirin":

...But if I were to change my style? Well, I'm a huge fan of CelestialFang's semi-realism!

Just absolutely breathtaking. :heartpulse:

@migxmeg Aw heck yeah, Katsura Hoshino! The panel layout in D.Gray-Man never fails to give me a giant headache, but the art is soooo pretty...

For me, my own art style is really simple, partially by choice (my brain just does simple better, and I do like the way simplicity looks) but also partially out of necessity. Nerve injuries means I can't draw for very long so I have to keep things simple (limited color palette so that I can paint more area faster, using only one kind of brush, etc). Sometimes, I do wish I could draw in a more painterly/textured/detailed style, like...

Sana Takeda, who draws Monstress:

Or maybe even Sarah Webb (who is an inspiration to me, but... I'm pretty far off from this, haha)

I really like the black and white artwork. Great linework and shadows. I've never heard of Matt Rhodes but definitely will look into his work. Looks like it'd be great to incorporate for my comic style .Thanks!

I am sort changing my art style for my new series because I had some issues with my old one.
I don't hate my art style, tho I wish it was a bit more refined. I am still tweaking it a bit.

I think if I really had to choose
I wish I could draw buildings and cityscapes like Katsuhiro Otomo

Tho maybe on the flip side, maybe I want to be more like Ludwig Bemelmans

Man. There are a lot of aesthetics and artists that are super inspiring that I would love to be able to draw/paint like. Here are just a few:

Sylvain Sarrailh

Kim Jung Gi

Jim Lee
