Hey, I'm 35, started my comic earlier this year. The story was something that has been rattling around in my head for about seven or eight years that I originally tried writing as a novel but found I was fine coming up with a rough plot, characters and could write dialogue no probs, but I struggled to put the images I had in my head into words. I found I wrote better in a script format and really wanted to get this story out as comic or graphic novel. However I didn't really have the means to do it or the confidence in myself as an artist. I knew I could have looked for an artist to work with but a combination of being a control freak, being too self concious to share the story and being too afraid that I may let someone else down by not being able to commit fully, stopped me from doing that.
So now I'm in my mid thirties I realised I had to stop worrying too much about how good my art is and just get the story out of my head and on paper (albeit digitally,) if only for my own enjoyment as I really enjoy being creative and have always drawn and painted since I was a kid. I was inspired to finally make a start on it after reading Brian K Vaughan's "Saga" and "Y, The Last Man." I got myself a pen & tablet setup for my PC and just decided to get it done, made a start deciding that I would practice with the tablet "on the job" and a year later I finished my first 38 pages which make up my first chapter. There was a noted improvement in my art as the chapter went on so I went back to the beginning and touched up and polished some of the earlier pages. That first chapter is now going up on Tapas broken up into several episodes which are now scheduled to be published every Thursday.
I do work full time to pay the mortgage so I don't get to work on the comic as much as I'd like and only really get to do it at weekends. My biggest concern is that it's taken me a year to complete chapter one, so I'm looking at at least twenty years to finish if I continue at this rate, so now looking at ways to make my process more effecient. Although I have found that I the more practiced I've become using the tablet I am already working quicker than when I first started, completed a page in a day rather than a single panel.
I realise I've typed quite a post so I'll go now, so here's my comic "Flux." Science Fiction with mature content. Currently trying to build my followers so would really appreciate your support. Thank you for your time and checking out my work.
