I love this comparison, great work! From time to time I'm thinking of posting my series on another website and this post helps a lot! ( :
I think it would be better if it wasn't in promotions category? Tapas forums have a problem with LOTS of promotions threads and this one (which actually has some helpful info and not only links to comics) might get lost between them. Plus a lot of users have promotions category muted (... because sometimes there are +20 promotions threads bumped up at once by the same person and it's hard to get to other topics)

I really appreciate you doing this write up of all the comic sites. I’ve been on comicfury and the duck longest…and smackjeeves once upon a time ago. I’ve only recently started on webtoons/tapas/globalcomix and it’s really nice getting a rundown of what works well and why. I’ve seen your comic on most of the platforms so I’m happy to get your perspective on it. Since I only started on global Comix a couple weeks ago, I wasn’t really sure how well my comic would do there, but based on this, sounds like a great place to push. You’re definitely right about comic fury and the duck. The Duck has been great in the sense that it’s easy to get noticed there. Both iterations of Nocturne 21 got featured quickly after I started posting them and I’ve always had a soft spot for the Duck because it was the first site I ever posted my comics on. Didn’t know about the update timer, so that’s great! Comic fury has an amazing community and even though I’ve been on there a long time, I’m just now discovering the forums and how fun it is on there. I haven’t been on Webtoons or Tapas long, but I’m not sure how much I expect out of them, since my comic isn’t really a polished webtoon. I’ll keep trying and learning though. Once again, thank you for posting this!

It was overwhelming at first being on so many sites, I dived into Tapas only a week after joining Globalcomix so much of my daily routine was forced to change around it. I now have to devote maybe 45 minutes to an hour checking my socials, it can be easy to get distracted as well especially now that i'm on Twitter self Promoting my comics. Best piece of advice I can give is feel free to take it slow and do it when you're ready. Nocturne 21 is a great comic i've read it a couple of times in the past.

Comic Fury and the Duck i've been on since August 17th (Duck) and I think September or October for Comic Fury. I've been on Webtoons the longest (April 17th) Globalcomix I joined on January and Tapas I joined a week later. Admitedly I never got to try Smack Jeeves but I have friends such as HPkomic and MK_Wizard who had experience with the site when it was still active. BTW I tried to click to join your discord server but it said the invite was invalid i'm down for being friends on there. if possible ^^.

Yeah i'm still new here so I wasn't 100% where it should go i'm down with a moderator moving it to another sub thread (Edit just moved it to review and feedback seeing as this thread is a review of sorts). That being said I played it safe as I left a link to my own comic and I wasn't sure if things were like Reddit as that site can be strict with self promo of any kind...

You're right. It's incredibly overwhelming to be on so many sites. I hugely appreciate that a lot of these sites allow me to schedule my comics WAY in advance or I don't know if I could do it. Your experience on the different sites is helpful though, because now I can kind of prioritize certain sites over others. You're definitely doing things right, because again, I see your comic EVERYWHERE, lol, which is fantastic! MK_Wizard is another artist I see everywhere too. I enjoy reading her baking competition comic pages on the shameless advertisement forums, lol.

Sounds like you started posting on some of the other sites around the time I started posting my current run of Nocturne. I think I started posting again on Comic Fury and the Duck in August, but before then I hadn't posted in years, close to a decade I think. I was bummed about SmackJeeves, because that was another great site that I really enjoyed. It was easy to use and I had decent success with it. The Duck is great and I started posting on there WAY back when it was called Drunk Duck. The moderators are nice from what I can tell and it's easier to get noticed. I have to put a bit more effort in than I have been. Social media and self promotion have never been a strong point for me, so this aspect has been very hard; spending hours in forums, posting and reposting, advertising, trying to make connections when you're an awkward hermit, lol. Global Comix sounds like a great way to go though and it's such an easy and convenient site to use. Any tips for advertising on twitter? I've been twitter for a long time, but I have no idea how to properly use it and I've never gotten any traction from it.

Try this link for my discord! I love making new friends and I'd be happy to have you on there

A quick glance at the main page suggests that it dominated by old American B List publishers like Antarctic and Top Cow the same way Tapas is dominated by shojou romance titles. Is this the norm or did I just happen to look on the wrong day?

There's a lot of variety on Globalcomix atm Hawk and Flo: Ice Cream Truck of Doom has been one of the most popular graphic novels on the site since it came out ^^;. It will likely attract mainstream comic readers in the long run as it's main demographic but atm anything goes.

While there's quite a lot of those getting added to the site, they don't seem to be dominating readers attention as much as all the premium villianesses stories do on tapas

I didn't know about the Duck site, I'll check it out.
I've only tried Tapas and recently Webtoon. I firstly published on Tapas back in 2017 and I still like this place, even if it was better in the past. Notification works and the community here on the forum is active. Here on Tapas there are still comics in page format that can get attention, Webtoon is mostly vertical.
What I don't like is Tapas putting its own novel and comic all over the main page, it doesn't promote anymore new and worthy comics as it used to do.

I started last year to publish on webtoon and it's not going well. Too many high quality comics to compete with and I don't know where I can promote it aside for facebook groups. I also don't like the inexitent notification system, I need to manually check it out reading each page to look for comments.

Villainess should always be number 1. (Obviously my bias.) 🥰 idk just love how the world is not in white and black. Showing you the other side of the coin in a story.

Webtoons changed over time. To be popular now you just need good art even if your story is bad.

Many creator webtoons are full of plot holes but they get a contract since they were popular as a canvas. They don't do very well compared to professional webtoons from korean webcomics.

If you are on tapas I do recommend using a vertical scroll version if you want a shout out by tapas. Tapas got pretty picky on what they give more attention to.

I've been hesitant about checking GlobalComix 'cause when I briefly looked at it I got the impression it was for, like, very professional comics with the main intention to be sold (and being sold usually requires an interest beforehand). But from your review it sounds more like the platforms I'm already posting on, so hey, perhaps I should eventually add one more!

I suck at self-marketing, so posting my story in as many places as I can so far seems the only strategy I can pull... ^^" (Not fishing for pity or whatever, just know what my weakness is. Tragically it seems to be an almost fatal one in the webcomic world - but I'll keep moving > )

While I've been assured up above that it's still an open field, it does give the impression that direct market also-rans are seeing it as a replacement for Comixology.

I mean, cool. Comixology was good stuff in its prime. It should be replaced.

But even if Top Cow isn't Marvel they can still out-compete someone pounding out a weekly title all by their lonesome. If it does prove profitable enough for them you can be guaranteed that the businesses will push everyone out.

In The long run I think GC will attract mainstream comic readers. Which admittedly is good for me because, before I put my comics online I audience tested them with various people. I found that same audience liked my own comics so admittedly it is in my best interest to see the site succeed, that and The Duck so I confess to having a bit of bias in that regard xD. In the short run i've been able to update pretty much everyday because I had a stockpile of chapters before I went to Globalcomix.

There is the very real issue that due to the fact the site doesn't have an update timer, the big publishers on the site could abuse the recent update section and stay there indefinitely . If a single person like me could get their foot in the door by blasting updates imagine if DC or Marvel decide to put up every issue of Spider-man and Batman they could update every minute for years. That being said I don't think an update timer would be enough to stop something like Green Lantern hogging the front page given how many different versions there are of it.
