I know a lot of us content creators are in fandom. So I have a big question

What was the fandom you guys started in when you got on the internet?

I technically have two, but one was preinternet era (pokemon)

My first fandom on the internet, was actually Sonic the hedgehog. I was even in the sonic rp community on tumblr lol helped make the ideas of the multiverse with it too since thats where the games seem to going now too lol

shadow, a grim reaper from my comic, actually started in this community too! He was an au of Shadow the hedgehog

My big first fandom was the old anime The Slayers. It's not even a particularly good anime, and it hasn't aged terribly well, but it was my first "real" anime that got me hooked on anime and manga in the first place, and I dove reeeeaaaal deep into the fandom madness.

I wrote like a million fanfics on fanfiction.net (including more than my fair share of self-insert Mary Sue stories), I drew a ton of fanart and posted it all over deviantArt (shhhhh I still draw fanart for it sometimes), I drew a fancomic for a few months that never really went anywhere, and I built a website to catalogue all my favorite spells and characters from the show. I even met my current best friend on fanfiction.net and we would do Slayers role playing together in AOL Instant Messenger chat rooms.

Good times, y'all, good times. But also totally glad those times are well in my past!

For me it was Final Fantasy, particularly FFVIII. I did a fair bit of fanart, fanfic and stuff for it.

Sweating awkwardly.... I definitely wasn't influenced by that anime at all..... * looks at comic about small angry magically talented redhead lady fighting monsters with big lovable himbo guy * ...nope! ...ha...haha.... :sweat_02:

Oh gosh, it was probably InuYasha? After that it was Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto.
I wrote some pretty cringe-worthy fanfics at the age of 12. :joy: But you know what, it's all good because I was having a great time.

Honorable mention is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. This was less of an online fandom, but I used to have dreams about my selkie character Miriali as a kid, and I did write a fanfic I posted online as a kid? She was illiterate and her love interest a Clavat boy from another caravan was teaching her how to read and write.

Uuuuuhh... Neopets? I suppose that counts as a fandom. :sweat_02: I used to draw artwork of my pets all the time.

another sonic fan lol

I didn't do a lot of the making fanart or roleplay back then (did rp more with irl friends than online folk) tho the fanart bit's flipped on its head now  I was mostly an observer watching the anime, looking at cutscene compilations, amvs, fanart, fanfics and I think the most I ever made myself was this sort of au fanfic series that was either it's own parallel universe like the sol dimension or set in the future post sonic but pre silver :joy:

it 10% was an influence for me from worldbuilding to character development, half the cast are what fuiled my semi-obsession with in depth character analysis and i dunno whether thats a good or bad thing :joy: still very much a part of it now tho lol i think ol blue is the one hyperfixation i'm unlikely to shake

lol way back in the late 90's-early 2000's my friends and I were really into Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, cuz back then that was pretty much the only anime easily accessible at the time. We used to make Geocities fanart websites and share them with other classmates.

These aren't mine, but this is the kind of stuff we used to do, complete with missing images and horrible layouts, lol.

I was pretty big into Berserk. I mean look at my name heh. I created a mod for it in the game Mount & Blade.

wow this image gave me so much nostalgia. I can't believe I used to go on sites that had such bad design like this

As a 90's kid, I was into the Danny Phantom fandom at first online lol. I was allowed to roam Deviant art at 14...The internet was on simpler times and adults didn't know how computers worked lol. I was a good kid though, so I stayed away from the...horny jail side of stuff.
Edit: here I dug out some old ass fanart from my DA lol from 2012....so I was 11 turning 12

*coughs

Um, freakin Catz hexxing, anyone?

The Catz community was HOPPIN back in the day (and strangely had some weird drama) but I was too wee babe to code anything so I just watched

I can't find pictures on my computer anymore but at one point I was managing like 30 of these ugly catlike computer tomagachis and loved them like they were not a stupid computer tomagachi.

Oh geez, I really don't remember. I think it was the PJO fandom - that was the first time i really actively engaged in a fandom/community, so.

I don't think I actually ever was in a fandom? Like I never really drew a lot of fanarts or write fanfiction or wanted to bond with people over a cartoon
But there is a fandom important for me. Just a couple of months before I first got on the internet I was reading Loveless manga and somehow after a few hours of browsing I found a Loveless rp forum... and I kinda stayed there for 6 years :joy: Can't really say I was into Loveless a lot, but what happened happened, I got myself a canonical role, bonded with a lot of people on that forum, wrote some working rules of the universe magic, etc, etc, and this alter-ego is kinda still with me and I treasure it a lot.

I'm pretty sure i'm the standard
Weeb/RPG nerd/Furry in that order.

I was never a fandom type of guy, so my participation in any one thing was really modest up until I found the furry fandom at the ripe young age of 22 xD

The most unusual thing about me is that I have been following a hecktoon of webcomics and indepent artists before I joined the fandom... I have a folder on my browser with over 50 links to webcomics that I still follow to this day.
And that is because I purged some of the REAAAAAALY old and non-update ones anymore.
