In Memoriam - Joanne Kwan

Dear Tapas Forum Community,

It is with a heavy heart that I have to share the news that our amazing and talented forum moderator @joannekwan is no longer with us. Please read her obituary here: https://www.colmacremation.com/obituaries/Joanne-Rae-Kwan?obId=41941633

Joanne has been a constant presence during my time at Tapas. She joined the platform a few months before me in 2015, and ever since then she was someone I looked up to. Her creativity, her art style, her consistency and and her kindness always stuck out. She collaborated with the Tapas Studio team before I started working here full time, and she is one of those creators who are so essential to the Tapas lore for many of us.

Her even keeled demeanor and relaxed nature was ever present when posting here on the forums, which is why I was so excited when she agreed to be our forum moderator in 2020. Since then, she has been mostly solely responsible for keeping you all in check. I knew she would ensure that the forum would be a safe place for you to share your work and thoughts and she never broke my trust in her.

I am heartbroken of this loss within our community and struggle to find the words to describe the loss I'm feeling personally. All I know is that I'm thankful that Joanne was in my online and professional life, and I will miss her.

Woah - I was here in 2018 for a good 2 years and remember her well. She was incredibly kind, gifted, and someone I really appreciated connecting with on the forums. I’m really sad to read this news.

I can't believe it. I really can't.

Joanne is and will always be a dear friend to me. For nearly ten years we existed together, starting out, finding our place, celebrating each other. We responded in kind every time, no matter what. I can't believe she's gone. Such a wise and thoughtful presence. So measured, so insightful. She was here for the everyone. Joanne was a legend in this place. And I've never met someone more dedicated to their craft. She was without a doubt the most authentic and unafraid artist I've ever met. Joanne, you are inspirational. My heart hurts for her family. For her wonderful husband. For her home that is now incomplete.

I mourn for the stories she never got to write, and the characters and worlds that she took with her.

Joanne, I'm so sorry I never told you plainly how much you meant to me. I will never forget you.

Joanne’s comic Heavy horns was one of the first things I’ve read and subscribe to on Tapas. We didn’t communicate much but her stories will always have a special place in my heart.

How awful! I remember Joanne from when I first joined, she was always so kind and active. Now I feel rather sad I won't ever get the chance to know her better... I'm thankful for the great place she helped Tapas make with her stories and her actions. May she rest in peace.
