nah i got a good laugh out of it lol you're good
Haha, I should have figured the fanfiction comment was more aimed towards the romance part of the story. Yeah, the romance in Time Gate is, to put it lightly, trash, in a very "If you're looking for romance, you won't find it here" kind of way (100% intended). That's why the series banner says "The worst romance of all time" xD The romance is really just there to serve as a negative catalyst to the plot - the characters' feelings (whether romantic or not) are used to try and create more depth and conflict for the plot outside of the parties causing said conflicts.
But hey, I'm always open to constructive criticism, especially when it comes to the side-plot romance. Thanks for that xD (and thanks for the laugh I got from earlier xD)
Honesty, a lot of these tropes can work, but the problem is that sometimes people focus too much on the trope/dynamic vs. the characters themselves. When the characters actually have a personality, with flaws and depth, it can help the trope not seem so stale. If they're built around the trope though, then it doesn't really have any strong legs to stand on.
