Seriously, I don't think I'm the only one who has to deal with this new update. What did they do to the squares?

Ikr! The squares are like the one iconic thing about insta

I have ONLY seen people complaining about this. Its wild to force everyone to cram things into their little square format for years and then be like “nevermind! also now your feed looks ridiculous!! good luck!”

Meta has gone full shitbag anyway. Time to abandon it was years ago but better late than never.

my guess is that this is their attempt to leverage with the tiktok ban craziness happening here in the US so the likely figured that having similar layout would be one step towards getting people to join the site but i hardly know anyone using metas platforms outside of ig and even then its only so popular given its many growing downsides

phrasing i guess but the enshitification of socmed sites has been ongoing for ages and way faster lately but i personally refuse to use any meta app because of its own data privacy issues , rampant ai and reposting and i rarely even see posts from the people i actually follow. so like disappointing but not surprising especially as someone who dropped the site/app years ago 🤷

@VibrantFox I'm debating on joining Pixelfed or waiting for Bluesky to open their IG alternative...I'm at the point where I need to streamline everything Meta.

@Shanny8 honestly the first ive heard of pixelfed but ive still struggled to really get into bluesky as it is so my motivation to hop into any new apps at this point has fallen to zero

I'll probably keep eyes and ears out for things that look interesting or seem promising but for once im the "grumpy old" sticking to what they know :pensive:

I've already deleted my Twitter/X account...it seems that in itself has given me quite the bit of courage to say "okay, Instagram is NOT bringing me joy"- as for Facebook, I'm gonna delete old pic folders/files and start cutting back on my art posting there(even more than I did last year); I cant keep giving them material to misuse...

Believe me, I dont create new accounts with "OOH! This site looks fun"- I create new accounts at new spots because the stat quo keeps going in directions that aren't favorable to me & helping me grow my audience as an indie/self published artist; I do it to "stay alive" coz if I stick with sites like Twitter and Instagram, they'd have me languish for 3-5 measly likes while they take my data and use it for their AI training.

I'm definitely not good with that.
