Did you build a brand new language for a group of people to speak amongst themselves in your comic? 🥸

Yes and no? Lol I wanted to make a made up language (maybe sometime in the future—that kind of stuff is so interesting and so fun to figure out but also extremely difficult) I applaud anyone who is able to do it.

Since THD is an alternative world, but a lot of it is based around the Philippines, I wanted some words to be in Tagalog—some words are, and some words have a letter changed to sound the same but slightly different. I even would translate words into Tagalog and mash them up in order to create a word that sounded realistic, or at least I tried.

In canon, the characters are speaking Agalatian, and I'm just translating to English so you can actually understand it XD

It's fairly functional as a language and I can actually speak a little bit of it lol

You can see it all throughout the backgrounds, sometime I translate the text if it's relevant to the story, sometimes I don't.

I've also know a bit about other neighbouring languages like Fewesachian, Minammii, Ogonotion, Gihriti, and more. I have a problem.......

Immediately thought of @morganicfoods when I saw this topic, haha.

But yeah, my short isekai(?) comic Unias Praetris has a couple fictional languages, though the languages themselves don't show up in the comic itself much outside of passing references (despite the title literally being in a fictional language ).

I have a few words, like mo ivarre for 'my chosen home' (a dark elven term of endearment), or using 'ma' as an honorific term (Eg Ma Ravenna).

Generally I guess they don't speak english. Like the fact that one character calls the other Honey is a WILD concept cus that's just not a thing.

And one character has a hard time with that language, so I purposefully break her grammar and took away apostrophes

My series has a language for Immortals called Faya. I haven’t really gone into deep details to what it is yet, tho I do plan to later on. I sort of imagine it sounding similar to Middle Eastern languages.

I didn't, but I definitely took inspiration and used dialect and diction from TTRPG games. All properly credited of course!

Otherwise I use a lot of song lyrics and poetry as inspiration for my MC's arcane abilities:)

My last comic had a fake language, but it was mostly in the background. The words were a mishmash of Spanish and Japanese (because I'm super creative! /s)

One thing I had fun with was designing the numerals. Each digit had a corresponding number of angles. You can figure out the numbers in this page by counting the angles

I'm working on a reboot which takes place in the same world, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to have a fake language in the background since it's inconsequential. I think I'll just write everything in English and just have the characters claim they're speaking [language name]

Kinda. The chickens technically speak, idk, fowlian or something other than English, which I try to illustrate using a different style of balloons

I did have a written language, as you can also see in the image, but I had lost the 'alphabet' when I transferred the files to a new PC/tablet, so it's technically a 'lost language' rn.

Maybe best that happened, cause I had wanted to leave 'letters' in the chicken lang in certain scenes and spell out some secret code for the viewers to interpret, which sounded really cool, but I don't know what the message ought to be as of yet. Might revisit the idea later if I feel there's a good incentive to be made, and redo the alphabet too. Heheh, realized it's chicken scratch...

Not for my current comic, and no full-blown conlangs where I actually properly constructed how the sentence structures etc work, but the world of the First Principles series canonically has its own languages; I wrote a (draft of a) song in one of the languages, Gaosian (I don't know what the lyrics actually mean, it's just supposed to be an English soundalike so that my main characters' names blend in :P)

Yeah, actually! it's only one of the villains who speaks it, And although he speaks exclusively in ogre language, you can pretty much always figure out what he said from his partners reactions lol.
