I joined in 2016 and yes it was chaotic. You joined in 2018, and by then the mods were much stricter with the forums and most political threads were being locked.

It’s still on twitter’s the decision to un-deplatform those people though, but they don’t do that, do they?
I have this feeling that me and you and vibrantfox here will agree over 90% of political stances, just not the method. Because ultimately what i find offensive and abusive to me is totally different than what flat earthers or fundamentalists and the right wingers find offensive/abusive/harmful. That’s why censorship will attack both sides, what hurt them will hurt us if the position of power is flipped, and maybe we start with something genuinely awful, and then the lines become blurry and it’s slippery slope. And in many instances, the attempt on censorship against progressive side is much worse than the cancel culture of the right side, and will end not just in social media, but lead to arrest and even people being killed.

While I can completely understand this viewpoint as a person who moderates a large forum (seriously, why did I sign up for this?), I've also learned in the last 4 years to seriously distrust any community in which the discussion of politics is forbidden. I want to know if the person I'm joking around and potentially collaborating with tacitly supports white supremacy.

On a personal level I absolutely agree with that. I was glad that my team chose to go with the "Keep all politics in this section" method instead. I just mean from a practicality standpoint of keeping up with it all. If it were up to me though I'd just straight-up ban anyone that shows such hateful views. Nazis can GTFO.
