Is watercolor a good way of making comics?

Hi everyone, i have a comic made out of watercolor and as i have seen in others comics everyone is using pc programs for making comics. I feel a bit lonely. So i came here to ask if my comic style (i mean watercolor in real life ot pc) is good for comics.

Anything that works for you is good for comics! You don't need someone to give you permission to do a thing, or tell you it's okay, in order to use it!

I use ballpoint pen to ink my comics. Literally nobody told me that that was a good way to do it (in fact I had someone scold me for it) but now whenever I show my process, I get readers who think it's really cool that my work is traditional with a kind of weird tool! It's a little slower than some methods, but I'm comfy with that, so it works for me.

So is watercolour good for comics? Well, you're already doing it, so you'd be able to say more than those of us who haven't tried it!! You have to figure out how to scan them in to preserve the image, you have to have the physical space and the physical supplies and the skill with watercolour and the control to make it work. But whether or not it works for you is up to you, not anybody else. : )

HI! I've seen your comic from another post on the forums, and your watercolors is one of the reasons why I love your comic!
Personally, I use the computer for multiple reasons. It's easier to edit, and I find it hard to scan in my drawings since I don't have a good scanner.

But to make comics, there is no "this is what makes a good comic". If you are willing to put in the effort to use watercolors instead of a computer, do that! I fully support the idea that making your comic needs to be as enjoyable for the creator as much as the reader. What I'm trying to say is: you do you.

[As a side note, I'm pretty sure that the comic Fox & Willow uses inking pens to color in their work.]

I think it is fantastic you use watercolors! I know traditional mediums can be tricky for comic creation due to not being able to make edits very easily (or at all). Being willing to work traditionally shows you got guts! I personally don't use watercolor in my comics but I do use Copic Sketch markers so I identify with how you feel. Keep up the good work!

Just do what works best for you and your series.
I work with traditional ink and speedball pens for my line art, then I color or tone my work digitally because that's what works best for me.
Readers tend to not really care how their favorite series is made, all that matters is the end result.

I think it's great! The fact is, that people will be drawn to you/ intrigued by you because there aren't many people who do your craft. Personally in my comic, I use graphite pencils and different sorts of inks so I'm traditional all the way. But don't use watercolors for the sake of it - make sure it suits your story.

The answer to that is no, no it is not. If you plan on using color for your comics, digital is the the only way to go, unless you want to put up new pages at a very, very slow pace. I have created about 20+ pages with watercolor on watercolor paper, and I can tell you, I will never do that again. It is very slow, because the layers have to dry in between each application; it is expensive because you need good brushes, paper, and pigment; and it is unforgiving if you make a mistake. There are a few programs which simulate watercolor, and currently I am eyeing Rebelle. Check it out. It's expensive, but you can try a free demo and see if it's for you.
